Purchasing Assistant

Spirotech SRD Group is a leading manufacturing and engineering business based in Sawtry, Cambridgeshire. As our business continues to grow, we are looking for a highly organised and proactive Purchasing Assistant to support our Procurement team in ensuring materials and services are sourced efficiently to meet customer and operational requirements.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced purchasing professional to join a fast-paced manufacturing environment where they can make a genuine impact on business performance and supplier management.

About the Role

Reporting to the Purchasing Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the day-to-day purchasing function, ensuring materials are procured cost-effectively, delivered on time and accurately recorded within our systems. This role is a full time (40 hour week) office based role.

Key Responsibilities

• Raising purchase orders and requests for quotations (RFQs)
• Sourcing materials, components and services from approved suppliers
• Negotiating pricing, lead times and delivery schedules
• Building and maintaining strong supplier relationships
• Liaising closely with Production, Stores, Engineering and other internal departments
• Chasing outstanding deliveries and resolving supplier-related issues
• Monitoring supplier performance and supporting cost-saving initiatives
• Maintaining accurate purchasing records, reports and documentation
• Assisting with invoice queries and supplier reconciliations
• Supporting stock control and inventory management activities

Essential Requirements MUST HAVE

✅ Previous experience using M1 Software (Manufacturing One)

Other Essential Skills

✅ Experience in a purchasing, procurement, buying or supply chain role
✅ Strong organisational and time management skills
✅ Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities
✅ Good Microsoft Office skills, including Excel
✅ Ability to work accurately under pressure and manage multiple priorities
✅ Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving

Desirable Experience

• Manufacturing or engineering industry experience
• Experience working with supplier performance management
• Knowledge of stock control and inventory processes
• Understanding of procurement best practices
