REPORTING TO
Head of Procurement & Operational Resources
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a Purchasing Assistant to join our team at Absolute Engineering in Skelmanthorpe.
This is a good opportunity for someone who wants to learn a practical new skillset and build a career in purchasing. You will work closely with our Head of Procurement & Operational Resources, who will help you understand the role, the wider business and how good purchasing supports our customers and production team.
You may already have some purchasing or administration experience, or you may simply be looking for a role where you can learn and take on more responsibility. We are open-minded about your background. What matters most is that you are organised, dependable and willing to learn.
You will be supported, but you will also be trusted with real work from the start. As your knowledge and confidence grow, we would expect the role to grow with you.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Helping to source and order goods and services.
- Managing purchase orders and following up delivery dates with suppliers.
- Keeping colleagues informed about expected delivery dates and any delays.
- Maintaining accurate purchasing, pricing and supplier records.
- Monitoring stock levels and helping the team plan what needs to be ordered.
- Working with Finance and suppliers to resolve invoice queries.
- Working closely with Production, Engineering, Operations and Finance.
- Helping to improve purchasing processes and ensuring company procedures are followed.
WHAT YOU CAN LEARN
This is a hands-on role in a small team. You will be able to ask questions, see how decisions are made and learn directly from an experienced Head of Purchasing & Operational Resources.
- How to manage purchase orders and supplier relationships.
- How stock levels and demand are planned.
- How purchasing supports a busy manufacturing business.
- How to use ERP systems and keep accurate commercial records.
- How to communicate clearly with suppliers and colleagues.
- How to spot problems early and help find practical solutions.
WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
You do not need to arrive knowing everything. We are looking for someone who is willing to learn, pays attention to detail and can be relied upon to follow things through.
WILLING TO LEARN
You are comfortable asking questions, taking feedback and building your knowledge over time.
ORGANISED
You can manage several tasks, keep accurate records and make sure nothing is forgotten.
RELIABLE & HELPFUL
You keep people informed, help where needed and follow tasks through to completion.
USEFUL EXPERIENCE
Experience in any of the following would be useful, but it is not essential:
- Purchasing or supply chain administration
- Customer service
- Manufacturing or engineering
- Logistics or stock control
- Business or finance administration
- An entry-level commercial role
A positive approach, attention to detail and clear communication are more important to us than a particular job title or number of years of experience.
SUPPORT AND DEVELOPMENT
You will receive day-to-day guidance from the Head of Purchasing & Operational Resources. As you become more confident, you will gradually take on broader purchasing responsibilities.
The aim is to help you become a capable and dependable member of the purchasing team, with skills that can support a longer-term career in purchasing, procurement or supply chain.
PACKAGE
- Competitive salary.
- 6% employer pension contribution.
- Private healthcare through Vitality.
- Salary sacrifice Techscheme and Cyclescheme.
- Electric Vehicle leasing scheme.
- Free workplace EV charging.
- Ongoing training and development opportunities.
HOW TO APPLY
Please apply with your CV and tell us a little about why the role interests you. We would be pleased to hear from people who are serious about learning and becoming good at what they do.
