Purchasing Assistant/ Executive

About the role

This is a purchasing role within a growing food distribution company supplying a wide range of frozen and ambient food products to customers across the foodservice, retail, and related sectors.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with daily purchasing activities and ensure timely replenishment of products
• Liaise with local and overseas suppliers on pricing, availability, lead time, orders and deliveries
• Prepare and process Purchase Orders (POs) and maintain accurate purchasing records
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with the warehouse and sales teams to ensure adequate stock availability
• Follow up closely on incoming shipments and supplier deliveries
• Compare supplier quotations and assist in sourcing competitive prices
• Maintain and update supplier, product and pricing information
• Monitor product costs and highlight significant price changes to management
• Coordinate with suppliers regarding product specifications, packaging and quality requirements
• Assist in handling discrepancies relating to quantity, pricing, delivery and product quality

About you

• Diploma or relevant qualification in Purchasing, Supply Chain, Logistics, Business Administration or a related field preferred
• At least 2 years of relevant working experience in purchasing, procurement, or supply chain
• Experience dealing with food manufacturers, distributors, importers, or FMCG suppliers will be an added advantage
• Prior working experience in food distribution/ wholesaler company will be beneficial
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
• Strong organisational skills with good attention to detail
• Good communication and negotiation skills
• Able to communicate effectively with suppliers and internal departments
• Able to work independently as well as part of a team
• Responsible, proactive and able to follow up on tasks independently
