Purchasing Associate - Engineering

About the role

The Purchasing Associate supports project and operational continuity by sourcing construction materials, goods, and services at competitive commercial terms and in accordance with approved requirements. The role evaluates suppliers, prepares accurate purchase orders, follows through replenishment and deliveries, coordinates receiving requirements, resolves supply exceptions, and maintains the transaction records needed for control, reporting, and invoice processing.

Key responsibilities

• Review approved requisitions for complete specifications, quantities, units of measure, required dates, delivery points, budget references, and approvals; resolve gaps before sourcing.
• Source qualified suppliers for construction materials, goods, and services, and maintain alternatives for critical and frequently purchased requirements.
• Obtain comparable quotations; assess price, quality, availability, lead time, terms, and supplier responsiveness; negotiate and document the recommended award.
• Procure cement, aggregates, steel bars, hardware, and other project materials to approved specifications, quantities, budgets, and schedules; obtain technical approval for substitutes.
• Coordinate with Inventory/Warehouse and project sites on reorder needs and consumption priorities; follow through approved replenishment and flag shortage risks early.
• Prepare accurate purchase orders promptly after complete approval; verify supplier, specifications, quantities, prices, taxes, terms, delivery details, and references.
• Coordinate delivery timing and receiving instructions; track open orders, communicate changes, and confirm delivery or service completion.
• Resolve late, incomplete, damaged, or rejected deliveries and service issues; arrange correction, replacement, or credit and escalate material impacts.
• Maintain complete and current records of requisitions, quotations, evaluations, suppliers, purchase orders, deliveries, invoices, approvals, and order status.
• Prepare monthly reports on purchase orders, deliveries, back orders, lead times, price movements, supplier performance, exceptions, and required actions.

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Logistics, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
• At least one or two years of purchasing, procurement, or supply-chain experience, preferably involving construction materials, real estate development, engineering projects, or site deliveries.
• Working knowledge of supplier sourcing, quotation comparison, negotiation, purchase-order preparation, construction-material specifications, units of measure, delivery monitoring, invoice-support documentation, spreadsheets or procurement systems, and purchasing controls.
• Commercial awareness, integrity, attention to detail, numerical accuracy, negotiation, supplier communication, urgency, problem solving, coordination, and disciplined follow-through.
