Purchasing Executive

About the role

We are seeking a Purchasing Executive to join Chumboon Metal Packaging (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd in our Gelang Patah, Johor facility. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in our supply chain operations. As a Purchasing Executive, you will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials and services that are essential to our metal packaging manufacturing operations. This role is integral to ensuring we maintain competitive costs, quality standards, and reliable supplier relationships whilst supporting the company's strategic objectives and operational efficiency.

What you'll be doing

• Identifying, evaluating and selecting suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery time and reliability criteria
• Negotiating contracts and terms with suppliers to secure the best value for the company
• Preparing and issuing purchase orders and managing the procurement process from requisition to delivery
• Monitoring supplier performance and maintaining strong vendor relationships to ensure consistent quality and on-time delivery
• Coordinating with internal departments including production, finance and operations to understand material requirements and timelines
• Maintaining accurate records of purchase orders, invoices and inventory levels
• Conducting market research to identify new suppliers and cost-saving opportunities
• Resolving procurement issues and discrepancies with suppliers and internal stakeholders
• Ensuring compliance with company policies, procedures and relevant procurement regulations
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives to streamline purchasing processes and reduce costs

What we're looking for

• Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement or a related field
• 2-4 years of experience in a purchasing or procurement role, preferably within manufacturing or logistics sectors
• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to build effective relationships with suppliers
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and experience with procurement or inventory management systems
• Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple purchase orders simultaneously
• Attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping and documentation
• Strong communication skills in English; proficiency in Bahasa Malaysia and Mandarin Chinese would be advantageous
• Knowledge of metal packaging or manufacturing processes is preferred
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
• Problem-solving mindset and proactive approach to identifying cost-saving opportunities
