Purchasing Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to join HOMA ENGINEERING (M) SDN BHD in Penang Island, Penang. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial strategic role within our manufacturing and logistics operations. As Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the procurement function, managing supplier relationships, and ensuring optimal inventory levels to support our manufacturing operations. This role is integral to maintaining our supply chain efficiency and contributing directly to the company's profitability and operational success.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with company objectives and operational requirements
• Identify, evaluate and select suppliers based on quality, cost, delivery performance and reliability
• Negotiate contracts and terms with suppliers to achieve competitive pricing whilst maintaining quality standards
• Monitor supplier performance and manage supplier relationships to ensure adherence to agreed specifications and timelines
• Manage purchase orders, track deliveries and resolve any supply chain issues or discrepancies
• Oversee inventory levels and implement inventory control measures to minimise waste and optimise stock availability
• Analyse purchasing data and market trends to identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements
• Liaise with internal departments including manufacturing, operations and finance to understand procurement needs
• Ensure compliance with company policies, legal requirements and industry standards in all procurement activities
• Prepare reports on purchasing activities, supplier performance and cost analysis for senior management

What we're looking for

• 2-3 years of experience in a purchasing or procurement role, preferably within the manufacturing sector

• Strong negotiation and supplier management skills with proven ability to build effective business relationships

• Advanced proficiency in procurement systems and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software

• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail and accuracy

• Sound knowledge of supply chain management principles, inventory control and logistics

• Demonstrated cost management expertise with the ability to identify and implement savings without compromising quality

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments

• Leadership capability to manage a team if required and mentor junior procurement staff

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Engineering or a related discipline

• Able to communicate with Mandarin, Malay and English
