Purchasing Manager

Overview

The Catering Butcher is seeking a Purchasing Manager to lead our procurement operations and drive efficient supply chain management. We are a family owned and operated business celebrating its 100th year this year, we pride ourselves on delivering exceptional service and quality to our customers. Our customer base is some of the finest pubs, restaurants and cafes in the local area whom we supply with some of the best quality meat available. In this vital role, you will oversee the sourcing and purchasing of goods and, ensuring optimal quality, cost-effectiveness, and timely delivery. You will work closely with the Managing Director and the General Manager to ensure consistent supply and manage stock levels as well as being in communication with the sales team receiving customer orders. Duties

• Develop and implement comprehensive purchasing strategies aligned with organisational goals to optimize costs and supply chain efficiency
• Coordinate logistics activities to ensure timely delivery of materials and products
• Monitor supplier performance, conduct regular evaluations, and foster strong relationships for continuous improvement
• Oversee inventory levels, forecast needs, and collaborate with logistics teams to prevent shortages or excess stock
• Lead procurement team members, providing guidance on best practices in negotiation, vendor management, and supply chain optimization

Qualifications

• Proven experience in procurement or supply chain management, preferably within a manufacturing or logistics environment
• Excellent negotiation skills with a track record of securing favorable terms with suppliers
• Deep understanding of logistics operations and supply chain processes
• Ability to analyze data effectively to inform purchasing decisions and improve operational efficiency
• Exceptional communication skills for collaborating across departments and with external partners
• Experience within the meat industry is preferred but not essential
