What they need

Purchasing Officer – Cabtec Limited

Location: Maungaturoto, Northland
Company: Cabtec Limited
Industry: Commercial Joinery / Cabinetry Manufacturing
Position: Full-time

About Cabtec

Cabtec Limited is a commercial joinery and cabinetry manufacturer delivering projects across New Zealand. We work in a fast-paced, project-driven environment where accurate purchasing, reliable supply, cost control and meeting production deadlines are critical to successful project delivery.

We are looking for an experienced Purchasing Officer to take responsibility for the purchasing and coordination of materials, hardware and other supplies required across our projects and manufacturing operations.

Based in Maungaturoto – Leave the Auckland Traffic Behind

This role is based at our Maungaturoto operation in Northland, offering a great opportunity for someone wanting a quality industry role without the daily commute into Auckland.

Maungaturoto is well positioned for people living throughout the surrounding area, including Kaiwaka, Waipu, Mangawhai, Ruakākā, Wellsford, and the wider Kaipara/Bream Bay area.

If you have been working in Auckland but are looking for a change of lifestyle, this could be an excellent opportunity to continue your career in the joinery and construction industry while leaving the Auckland motorway commute behind.

Less time sitting in Auckland traffic, more time enjoying what Northland has to offer.

We would particularly like to hear from experienced industry people already living locally, or those considering a move north who want to maintain a professional, commercially focused role.

The Role

The Purchasing Officer will work closely with our Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors, Production team and suppliers to ensure materials are ordered accurately, competitively and in sufficient time to meet manufacturing and installation programmes.

This is not an entry-level purchasing position. The successful applicant must have previous experience within the joinery, cabinetry, construction, manufacturing or a closely related industry and understand the importance of specifications, lead times, project programmes and cost control.

The position is very dynamic and requires pivoting from one task to another based on demands both from our site team and from the manufacturing team.

Key Responsibilities

·         Purchase materials, hardware, components and consumables required for Cabtec projects.

·         Review project requirements, material schedules, drawings and specifications to ensure the correct products are ordered.

·         Obtain and compare supplier pricing and negotiate competitive rates.

·         Issue and manage purchase orders accurately.

·         Ensure purchasing remains within project budgets and agreed allowances.

·         Monitor supplier pricing and identify opportunities for cost savings.

·         Track orders, deliveries and supplier lead times.

·         Proactively identify potential material shortages or delays before they affect production.

·         Coordinate purchasing requirements with Project Managers, Quantity Surveyors and Production.

·         Maintain strong relationships with key suppliers.

·         Source alternative products and suppliers where appropriate.

·         Ensure substitutions are approved before purchasing where specifications require this.

·         Manage damaged, incorrect or short-supplied goods with suppliers.

·         Assist with maintaining appropriate stock levels for commonly used materials and hardware.

·         Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier records.

·         Assist the accounts department with supplier invoices and resolve pricing or quantity discrepancies where required.

·         Assist with forecasting upcoming purchasing requirements based on the production programme.

·         Continually look for opportunities to improve Cabtec’s purchasing processes, supplier performance and overall material costs.

·         Inventory control & recording with rolling stock takes throughout the year

What We’re Looking For

Essential

·         Previous industry experience is required. Applicants must have worked within joinery, cabinetry, construction, manufacturing or a closely related industry.

·         Previous purchasing, procurement, estimating, project coordination or materials management experience.

·         Good understanding of project-based manufacturing or construction environments.

·         Strong understanding of supplier lead times and the impact purchasing has on production programmes.

·         Commercial awareness and confidence negotiating with suppliers.

·         Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

·         Good organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.

·         Confident computer skills and experience working with purchasing, ERP, accounting or project management systems.

·         Strong Excel skills.

·         Clear and professional communication skills.

·         Ability to work under pressure and deal proactively with supply issues.

What Success Looks Like

The Purchasing Officer will be measured on their ability to:

·         Have the right materials available at the right time.

·         Minimise production delays caused by purchasing or supply issues.

·         Achieve competitive material pricing.

·         Maintain purchasing within project budgets.

·         Reduce urgent and last-minute purchasing.

·         Identify long-lead items early.

·         Maintain accurate purchase orders and records.

·         Develop strong supplier relationships.

·         Identify genuine cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or specification.

·         Communicate potential supply problems early enough for the business to act.

You!

We are looking for someone who is organised, commercially minded and proactive. You should be comfortable picking up the phone to suppliers, negotiating pricing and chasing orders when necessary.

Most importantly, you need to understand that purchasing in a commercial joinery business is about more than simply placing orders. Material availability, price, specification and timing directly affect production efficiency and project profitability.

The right person will take ownership of the purchasing function and work ahead of the production programme rather than reacting to material requirements at the last minute.

Why Join Cabtec?

This is an opportunity to take an important role within an established commercial joinery business with its growth plans, and have a direct impact on people, project performance, manufacturing efficiency and profitability.

For the right person, it also provides the opportunity to build your career outside the Auckland congestion, while still working on significant commercial projects throughout New Zealand.

If you have the industry knowledge, purchasing experience and drive to take ownership of the role, we’d like to hear from you.

Other offers great for you!
