What they need

About us

Newly Weds Foods Australia & New Zealand is a joint venture partnership between Newly Weds Foods and George Westons Food and was established in 1983. The Company has evolved over the last 80 years to be a truly international food manufacturing business, with 29 facilities globally and customers in over 80 countries around the world. Newly Weds Foods delivers the ultimate taste experience, and our goal is to partner with our customers in developing innovative new products that build their brand and bottom line. By providing a comprehensive line of coatings, seasonings, sauces and flavour systems, we work with them to introduce new taste sensations with layers of depth and flavour notes that demand brand loyalty.

About the role

We are seeking a hands-on, self-motivated and enthusiastic Purchasing Officer to join our busy and dynamic team. Based at Wetherill Park and reporting to the Procurement Director, this role is responsible for procuring raw materials, packaging and consumables to support manufacturing operations across Australia and New Zealand. Working in a fast-paced environment, you will ensure materials are ordered accurately and delivered on time to meet business and production requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Purchase raw materials and packaging supplies in accordance with MRP (Material Requirements Planning) and consumables outputs and ad hoc operational needs.
  • Develop and maintain strong, professional relationships with key suppliers to support business continuity and performance.
  • Coordinate and negotiate with suppliers on a range of activities including new contracts, forecasting, purchase orders, product returns (due to damage, loss or rejection) and any changes or cancellations related to existing orders.
  • Identify and recommend suitable substitute materials or alternate suppliers when original requirements cannot be met, ensuring alignment with company standards for price, delivery, quality and service.
  • Prepare accurate and timely procurement-related reports as requested by the Procurement Director.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate pricing and market cost data in the BME system to support compliance with pricing policies and delivery performance targets.
  • Monitor material supply levels, address stock issues and collaborate with Production and Planning teams to minimise delays and disruptions.
  • Investigate and resolve issues such as short shipments, late deliveries and damaged goods, ensuring that appropriate credits are issued from suppliers.
  • Support stocktakes and inventory accuracy across Australia and New Zealand operations, maintain accurate MRP and contract data, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and team objectives.

About you

  • Proven experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably within the food industry in a similar role.

  • Sound understanding of purchasing principles, supply chain operations and inventory management.

  • Experience using ERP/MRP systems to manage purchasing and procurement activities, with the ability to interpret MRP outputs and support production planning and material availability.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, including the use of formulas, data analysis tools and graph creation.

  • Highly organised with effective time management skills and the ability to prioritise workload in a fast-paced, high-pressure and constantly evolving environment.

  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with a high level of initiative, discretion and confidentiality.

  • Professional and respectful communication style that fosters strong working relationships with colleagues and suppliers, contributing to a collaborative and positive work environment.
