Purchasing Officer (Manufacturing)

About the role

This role involves purchasing direct materials, components and production supplies for manufacturing operations. You will handle RFQs, quotations, purchase orders and purchasing documentation, plan purchases based on production demand, inventory, MOQ, pricing and supplier lead time, and source materials including metal sheets/coils, steel components, plastic resins, engineering plastics and packaging materials.

Key responsibilities

• Purchase direct materials, components and production supplies for manufacturing operations
• Handle RFQs, quotations, purchase orders and purchasing documentation
• Plan purchases based on production demand, inventory, MOQ, pricing and supplier lead time
• Source materials including metal sheets/coils, steel components, plastic resins, engineering plastics and packaging materials
• Coordinate with Planning and Production to ensure materials are available on time
• Follow up and expedite supplier deliveries to avoid production shortages
• Source alternative suppliers and handle urgent or spot purchases when required
• Negotiate pricing, payment terms, MOQ and delivery lead times
• Monitor supplier performance in terms of quality, cost and delivery
• Maintain accurate purchasing and supplier information in SAP / ERP systems

About you

• Diploma or Degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Materials Management or related fields
• Minimum 3 years of purchasing experience within a manufacturing environment
• Experience in metal stamping, plastic injection moulding, precision engineering, automotive or electronics manufacturing is preferred
• Familiar with purchasing metal raw materials, plastic resins, production components or subcontracting services
• Good understanding of MOQ, lead time, material planning, inventory and supplier management
• Strong sourcing, negotiation and cost-management skills
• Experience with SAP, ERP or MRP systems is an advantage
• Good communication and coordination skills
• Able to manage urgent material requirements and changing production priorities
