Python Developer

We are a fintech product company building technology solutions for financial institutions and wealth management businesses.

We are looking for an experienced Python Backend Engineer to join our Hong Kong team and help design, build, and enhance our core product platform.

The Role

As a Senior Python Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for developing robust, scalable backend services that power our fintech products. You will work on API development, transactional processing, concurrency, and distributed systems, ensuring our platform delivers high performance, reliability, and data integrity in a demanding financial-services environment.

This role is suited to a hands-on backend engineer with strong Python development experience who enjoys solving complex engineering problems in a product-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and RESTful APIs using Python and frameworks such as FastAPI.
• Build reliable, high-performance backend systems supporting transactional workflows, concurrent requests, and business-critical operations.
• Design and implement database models, queries, transactions, and data-access layers, ensuring consistency, integrity, and performance.
• Develop robust application logic with appropriate error handling, logging, testing, and security controls.
• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, concurrency issues, and production incidents.
• Contribute to system architecture, technical design decisions, and engineering best practices.
• Collaborate closely with product managers, frontend engineers, QA, and business stakeholders to deliver product features.
• Participate in code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, and production deployment processes.
• Explore opportunities to incorporate AI-enabled capabilities into backend products and workflows where appropriate.

Requirements

• 6+ years of professional software development experience, with substantial hands-on experience building backend applications using Python.
• Strong experience developing production-grade backend services and RESTful APIs using frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Solid understanding of database transactions, concurrency, race conditions, locking, and data consistency.
• Strong experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL, including SQL, schema design, query optimisation, and transaction management.
• Good understanding of asynchronous programming, including Python's asyncio, async/await, and concurrent request handling.
• Experience designing maintainable, modular, and testable application architectures.
• Familiarity with Git, automated testing, CI/CD, containerisation, and production troubleshooting.
• Good communication and collaboration skills in a cross-functional engineering environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in financial services, fintech, banking technology, or capital-markets-related applications.
• Knowledge of financial markets, such as equities, foreign exchange, derivatives, structured products, trading workflows, or post-trade processing.
• Experience building transaction-heavy or business-critical systems where reliability, auditability, and data integrity are essential.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, message queues, event-driven architecture, caching, and horizontal scaling.
• Understanding of AI/ML fundamentals and practical AI integration, including LLM APIs, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), or AI-enabled application workflows.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP, and technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
