What they need

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Python Developer to join a leading hedge fund's technology team. This individual will work closely with portfolio managers, quantitative researchers, traders, and risk professionals to design and develop high-performance applications supporting investment strategies, portfolio analytics, trading, and risk management.

The ideal candidate is a strong hands-on Python engineer with experience building production-grade systems in a fast-paced financial environment. This is a software engineering role rather than a pure quantitative research position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable Python applications supporting front-office trading, portfolio management, and investment analytics.
  • Partner directly with portfolio managers, traders, and quantitative researchers to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.
  • Build and enhance trading infrastructure, portfolio analytics platforms, and real-time market data processing systems.
  • Develop data pipelines to ingest, normalize, and process large volumes of market, reference, and alternative data.
  • Build tools supporting P&L calculations, risk analytics, position management, and portfolio exposure monitoring.
  • Develop RESTful APIs, microservices, and distributed applications that integrate with trading and investment platforms.
  • Optimize application performance, improve processing efficiency, and troubleshoot production issues.
  • Work with relational and NoSQL databases to support high-volume financial data processing.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, DevOps, and data engineering teams to improve system reliability, automation, and deployment processes.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, testing, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Take ownership of applications throughout the full software development lifecycle.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with strong hands-on Python development.
  • Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, data structures, algorithms, and software design principles.
  • Experience developing production-grade backend applications, APIs, and data processing systems.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, SQL Server, or Oracle.
  • Experience with Python libraries and frameworks such as Pandas, NumPy, FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
  • Familiarity with multithreading, multiprocessing, asynchronous programming, and performance optimization.
  • Experience with Linux environments, Git, automated testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work directly with business stakeholders.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience at a hedge fund, asset manager, investment bank, proprietary trading firm, or financial technology company.
  • Understanding of equities, fixed income, derivatives, or other financial instruments.
  • Experience supporting front-office trading systems, portfolio management, risk analytics, or P&L platforms.
  • Knowledge of market data providers such as Bloomberg, Refinitiv, or FactSet.
  • Experience with Kafka, Redis, Spark, Airflow, or other distributed data technologies.
  • Familiarity with AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and cloud-based infrastructure.
  • Exposure to quantitative research workflows, backtesting, or systematic investment strategies.
  • Experience working in a high-performance, business-facing engineering environment.

Ideal Candidate

A hands-on Python engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems and working closely with investment professionals. The successful candidate will combine strong software engineering fundamentals with an understanding of financial markets and the ability to deliver reliable, scalable applications in a demanding hedge fund environment.
