Python Expert

Role Overview

As the Python Expert within the Platform & Infrastructure Pod, you will serve as the crucial technical bridge between our AI research team and our core backend infrastructure. While the AI & Computer Vision Pod focuses on training highly accurate YOLO variants and multimodal models for smart parking and ANPR, your mission is to take these models out of the research environment and engineer them for high-performance, real-time production. You will architect the high-speed data pipelines, build scalable APIs, and optimize inference scripts to ensure our edge devices communicate seamlessly and instantly with our central servers.

Key Responsibilities

AI-to-Production Engineering

• Refactor and restructure Python codebases written by AI engineers into clean, modular, and production-grade architecture.
• Optimize AI inference scripts for edge-device constraints, minimizing memory leaks and maximizing processing speed for local vision models and ANPR pipelines.
• Implement asynchronous programming, multithreading, and multiprocessing techniques to handle concurrent video streams and trigger events on street-level hardware.

API Development & Data Routing

• Design, build, and maintain high-performance microservices and RESTful APIs, primarily utilizing FastAPI, to wrap and serve computer vision models.
• Architect the data handoff layers between the Python-based AI edge systems and the core Node.js/Redis/SQL backend platform.
• Ensure secure and reliable transmission of camera event data, images, and system health metrics across VPN tunnels (e.g., WireGuard) to the central databases.

System Integration & Cross-Functional Support

• Collaborate daily with AI team to understand new model architectures before they are deployed.
• Work tightly with the Backend Engineer and System Administrator to integrate Python microservices into the broader system infrastructure and CI/CD deployment pipelines.
• Troubleshoot complex latency issues, network bottlenecks, and integration bugs between edge AI processing and server-side logic.

Technical Qualifications

• Experience: 4+ years of advanced software engineering experience strictly focused on Python development in production environments.
• Core Frameworks: Expert-level proficiency in FastAPI (or similar asynchronous web frameworks) and deep understanding of Python’s memory management and concurrency models.
• AI/CV Familiarity: Practical experience wrapping and deploying computer vision models (e.g., YOLO, OpenCV, PyTorch/TensorFlow runtimes). You don't need to train the models, but you must know how to serve them efficiently.
• System Architecture: Strong understanding of distributed systems, message brokers/caching layers (like Redis), and integrating Python services with Node.js backends.
• DevOps/Deployment: Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker) and deploying applications in edge-computing or IoT environments.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with C++ or integrating Python with C/C++ extensions for extreme performance optimization.
• Previous background working with smart city infrastructure, intelligent transportation systems, or physical camera/IoT networks.
• Understanding of hardware acceleration (NVIDIA TensorRT, CUDA) for local AI deployments.
