Python Software Engineer - Trading Systems

The role

We're looking for a Python Software Engineer to join our Market Access team, which develops the infrastructure and software that enables our clients to connect to betting and prediction market exchanges.

This is a hands-on engineering role building systems that support real-time trading activity, where reliability, correctness and robust failure handling are critical.

You'll be part of a small engineering team, taking ownership of meaningful projects and solving challenging problems involving asynchronous processing, external APIs and real-time systems.

What you'll be working on

• Building and maintaining integrations with betting and prediction market exchanges, including REST APIs and WebSockets.
• Developing asynchronous Python services supporting order management, pricing and automated trading.
• Designing reliable systems that handle external failures, disconnections and changing state safely.
• Investigating production issues and improving system reliability and performance.
• Taking ownership of features from development through testing and deployment.

What we're looking for

• Strong commercial Python experience, particularly building and operating production services.
• Good understanding of asynchronous Python, concurrency and event-driven systems.
• Experience integrating with external APIs and real-time data feeds.
• Good SQL and relational database skills.
• Strong debugging skills and an understanding of reliability, state management and failure handling.
• Ability to work autonomously, take ownership and collaborate effectively within a small team.
• Good software engineering practices, including testing and code review.

Our technology stack includes Python 3.11, FastAPI, asyncio, PostgreSQL, RabbitMQ and WebSockets. We don't expect you to have experience with every technology.

Nice to have

Experience in trading, betting, financial markets, payments or other real-time transactional systems would be particularly valuable.

Familiarity with exchange or broker APIs, order books, market data or automated trading systems is an advantage, but previous trading industry experience is not essential.

We operate a hybrid working model, with opportunities to collaborate in person at our London office, but we're also open to fully remote candidates with the right experience and approach.
