The Opportunity

Our Release and Enablement team is the quality backbone of RollCall: every feature and every release passes through it before reaching the thousands of families who rely on our platform. Over the past six months our development throughput has accelerated sharply, and we're growing the QA team to match. That's where you come in.

As our QA Engineer, you'll be a hands-on manual tester at the centre of our release process. You'll test new features as they're built, run the regression cycles that protect every release, and make sure bugs are caught, clearly documented, and verified as fixed. You'll join an established team alongside our Senior QA (your team lead), our QA Automation Engineer, and a full stack developer who acts as first responder on incoming tickets.

This is a mid-level role. We're looking for someone who can hit the ground running on manual testing fundamentals; we'll happily invest in getting you across our product and domain.

Your Mission

• Test new features during sprints, using both exploratory and structured testing across web, mobile, and API layers.
• Own and execute regression testing before every release, ensuring nothing we've already built gets broken by new changes.
• Write and maintain clear test cases and test plans so our coverage is documented, repeatable, and easy to hand over.
• Reproduce and verify bugs with clear steps, impact, and severity, working with developers to get them diagnosed and confirming fixes before they ship.
• Help triage incoming issues alongside our first responder, so real user problems get to the right people fast.
• Think about edge cases early, reviewing new features from the design stage to improve testability before a line of code is written.
• Spot the repetitive manual checks that are ripe for automation and partner with our QA Automation Engineer to get them automated, so your time goes to the testing that needs a human brain.

The Tech Stack You'll Be Testing

• Backend: Python (Django), REST APIs
• Frontend: React JS (web app), React Native (mobile app)
• Payments: Stripe
• Databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB, DynamoDB
• CI/CD: Bitbucket Pipelines (Atlassian stack)
• Infrastructure: AWS (ECS, Lambda, RDS, S3, SQS, CloudWatch)
• Tooling: Jira for tracking, Postman (or similar) for API testing

What We're Looking For

• Around 2 to 4 years of hands-on software QA experience, with a strong foundation in manual testing: test case design, exploratory testing, and regression cycles.
• Experience testing web applications and mobile apps (React Native experience is a plus, not a requirement).
• Understanding of API testing (REST) and tools like Postman, or equivalent.
• A track record of writing bug reports that developers thank you for: clear reproduction steps, expected vs actual behaviour, and honest severity calls.
• Familiarity with Jira (or a similar tracker) and basic version control concepts (Git).
• A methodical, detail-oriented approach. You're the kind of person who thinks about edge cases.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to clearly communicate bugs and their impact.
• Good communication skills in English.
• A proactive mindset. You'll flag issues, suggest improvements, and help shape how we do quality at RollCall.
• Nice to have: exposure to a test automation framework (Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar), basic SQL, or experience testing SaaS platforms.

What the Role Looks Like Day-to-Day

This is predominantly a manual testing role, and it will stay that way. Your weeks will centre on sprint feature testing, pre-release regression, and bug verification. As our automated coverage grows, the routine checks get taken off your plate so you can focus on deeper, more creative testing of new features. If you're keen to build automation skills over time, you'll be working right beside our QA Automation Engineer, and we support that growth, but we're hiring you first and foremost for your manual testing craft.
