QA/Safety Officer

Quality Assurance

• Develop and maintain quality systems: create, update, and enforce quality manuals, SOPs, work instructions, and checklists (often aligned with ISO 9001 or industry-specific standards).
• Inspect and test: check incoming materials, in-process work, and finished products or works against specifications.
• Audit: conduct internal audits and support external, client, or regulatory audits.
• Handle non-conformances: record defects, run root cause analysis, and issue and follow up on corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
• Control documents and records: keep inspection reports, test results, calibration records, and certificates organized and traceable.
• Monitor suppliers and subcontractors: evaluate their quality performance and verify compliance.
• Drive continuous improvement: track quality metrics such as defect rates and rework, and recommend improvements.

Health and Safety

• Risk assessment: identify hazards, evaluate risks, and recommend controls (job hazard analyses, method statements).
• Site and workplace inspections: do regular safety walk-throughs and check that PPE, machine guarding, housekeeping, and fire safety are in order.
• Compliance: make sure operations follow applicable laws and standards (e.g., OSHA, local occupational safety regulations, ISO 45001).
• Training: run inductions, toolbox talks, and drills, and confirm workers are competent for their tasks.
• Incident management: report and investigate accidents, near misses, and unsafe acts, identify root causes, and implement preventive measures.
• Emergency preparedness: help develop and test emergency response plans, first aid arrangements, and evacuation procedures.
• Permit-to-work and safe systems: oversee controls for high-risk activities such as hot work, confined spaces, working at height, and lockout/tagout.

Reporting and Coordination

• Prepare regular quality and safety reports with KPIs (e.g., incident rates, audit findings, closure of actions).
• Advise management on risks, compliance gaps, and resource needs.
• Coordinate with production, engineering, procurement, HR, and regulators or clients.
• Promote a culture where people take ownership of quality and safety, including the authority to stop unsafe work.
