- Create and maintain automated API test suites using Postman, REST Assured or equivalent tools.
- Integrate automated test suites into CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions and GitLab CI.
Test Planning and Execution
- Develop and execute automation-focused test plans for GOV.UK digital services.
- Ensure comprehensive test coverage across functional, regression and integration testing.
- Support User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validate end-to-end user journeys.
- Identify opportunities to improve test coverage, efficiency and automation reliability.
Defect Management and Quality Reporting
- Identify, document and track defects using tools such as Azure DevOps and Jira.
- Collaborate with developers to reproduce, investigate and resolve defects.
- Produce clear, data-driven test reports and automation execution summaries.
- Monitor automation results, identify recurring failures and recommend improvements.
Agile Delivery and Collaboration
- Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, including Scrum and Kanban activities.
- Collaborate with developers, product managers, business analysts and other QA engineers.
- Define and refine test strategies, prioritising automation and continuous quality improvement.
- Provide technical guidance and mentor junior testers where required.
Compliance and Quality Standards
- Align testing practices with relevant GOV.UK Service Standard and DDaT requirements.
- Support the validation of security, accessibility and performance requirements through automated and manual testing, where appropriate.
- Ensure testing approaches contribute to the delivery of reliable, accessible and user-centred digital services.
Technical Skills and Experience
- At least 6 years of experience as a QA Automation Tester or in a similar role.
- Strong proficiency in Java and JavaScript for test automation development.
- Extensive hands-on experience with UI automation tools and frameworks, including Playwright, Selenium and Cypress.
- Strong experience with API testing tools, including REST Assured and Postman.
- Proven experience designing and developing automation frameworks from scratch.
- A solid understanding of microservices architecture and contract testing, including API testing.
- Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions or GitLab CI.
- Proficiency in Git and version control practices.
- Familiarity with UI technologies, including React, HTML, CSS and JavaScript, to support effective test validation.
- Good knowledge of SQL and experience testing relational databases.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in Agile teams.
