What they need

Key Responsibilities

1. Requirements and Inspection Planning

· Review specifications, electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, cable schedules, I/O lists, control philosophy, BOMs and acceptance criteria.

· Confirm use of the latest approved drawings, PLC/HMI software, firmware and technical documents.

· Prepare or review ITPs, inspection checklists, functional test procedures, FAT checklists and configuration records.

2. Receiving and Supplier Quality

· Inspect PLCs, HMIs, power supplies, relays, breakers, sensors, actuators, motors, solenoids, connectors, cables, PCBs and panel components against purchase and technical requirements.

· Verify manufacturer, part number, rating, quantity, certification, condition, identification and traceability; ensure ESD-sensitive items are properly controlled.

· Raise and follow supplier NCRs and support supplier evaluation or inspection when required.

3. Panel, Wiring and Electronics Inspection

· Inspect control panels for layout, component orientation, DIN rails, terminals, segregation, cable ducts, glands, ventilation, circuit protection, labels, earthing and bonding.

· Verify wire type, size, number, termination, connector pinning, routing, bend radius, support, protection, ferrules, lugs, crimps, strain relief and terminal torque.

· Inspect electronic assemblies for correct components, mounting, connector orientation, damaged pins, loose connections, contamination, polarity and exposed conductors.

· Witness or perform continuity, point-to-point, polarity, insulation-resistance, earth-continuity, bonding and short-circuit checks.

4. Automation and Control-System Verification

· Verify installed PLC, HMI, remote I/O, sensors, actuators, safety devices and communication hardware against approved architecture, drawings and I/O lists.

· Test I/O assignments, sequences, interlocks, permissive, alarms, timers, fault simulations, emergency conditions, reset and recovery logic.

· Confirm sensor input, actuator response, HMI indication and system feedback match actual equipment status.

· Control and verify PLC, HMI and firmware versions, backups and product configuration traceability.

5. Spatial Product Inspection

· Inspect electrical and automated systems used in Aircraft Door Trainers, Cabin Emergency Evacuation Trainers, Cabin Service Trainers, Cockpit Trainers, Crew Rest Compartment Trainers, Over-Wing Exit Trainers and other contract-manufactured systems.

· Verify cabin and emergency lighting, call systems, interphones, indications, alarms, instructor control panels, switches, proximity/limit sensors, relays, solenoids and actuators.

· Test normal and emergency scenarios, simulated faults, power interruption, communication failure and repeatability over multiple operating cycles.

· Ensure cables and sensors are protected and do not interfere with moving mechanisms or create pinch, abrasion, heat or trip hazards.

6. In-Process, Functional Testing and FAT

· Conduct inspections at defined hold/witness points during panel build, wiring, integration and commissioning; identify defects before they become inaccessible.

· Execute pre-FAT and FAT tests covering power-up/down, supply voltages, circuit protection, I/O, interlocks, alarms, emergency stops, communications and repeated-cycle performance.

· Maintain test evidence and snag lists, verify correction, and ensure critical electrical, safety and functional issues are closed before release.

· Confirm as-built drawings, software backups, test records and configuration details match the delivered system.

7. NCR, CAPA and Change Control

· Raise clear NCRs for product, process, software and documentation non-conformities; implement immediate containment and coordinate authorized disposition.

· Support root-cause analysis using 5 Why, Fishbone, 8D, fault-tree analysis or CAPA; verify corrective-action effectiveness and monitor recurrence.

· Ensure changes to drawings, components, wiring, PLC programs, HMI screens and control sequences are formally approved, implemented and traceable.

· Prevent unintended use of obsolete drawings, software, firmware and superseded configurations.

8. Test Equipment, QHSE and Reporting

· Use multimeters, clamp meters, insulation/earth-continuity testers, oscilloscopes, calibrators and diagnostic tools safely; verify calibration and suitability before use.

· Assess product impact where out-of-calibration equipment has been used.

· Follow electrical isolation, lockout, verification and PPE requirements; stop unsafe testing or energization and report hazards immediately.

· Monitor NCR trends, functional failures, first-pass yield, rework, FAT snags, supplier defects, calibration and CAPA closure; recommend improvements.

Qualifications and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation & Control, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.

· 4–8 years of relevant experience in electrical quality, electronics manufacturing, automation, panel building, system integration, machinery or simulator manufacturing.

· Minimum 2 years of practical inspection or testing experience involving electrical panels, wiring, controls or automation systems.

· Experience with aviation training devices, FAT, supplier quality, IEC/customer requirements and ISO 9001 auditing is preferred.

Required Technical Skills

· Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, I/O lists, cable schedules, terminal drawings and BOMs.

· Inspect panel workmanship, wiring, terminations, crimping, connectors, harnesses, earthing and bonding.

· Understand PLC/HMI systems, sensors, actuators, relays, contactors, control circuits and communication interfaces.

· Perform electrical safety and functional tests and safely use electrical test equipment.

· Prepare inspection reports, NCRs and test records; apply RCA, CAPA, 5 Why and 8D techniques.

· Manage drawing, software, firmware and product-configuration traceability.

Core Competencies

· Attention to detail and strong fault-finding ability.

· Objective, evidence-based decisions under production and delivery pressure.

· Clear communication with Engineering, Production, Projects, suppliers and customers.

· Strong documentation, traceability and record-control discipline.

· Customer focus, risk awareness, QHSE mindset and continual improvement.

Authority

· Hold or reject nonconforming electrical/electronic components and installations.

· Stop unsafe electrical testing, energization or progression of nonconforming work.

· Raise NCRs, request reinspection/retesting and prevent FAT or dispatch where mandatory requirements remain incomplete.

· Escalate unresolved product-safety, functional or compliance risks.

Key Performance Indicators

· Inspection completion against project schedule and record completeness.

· First-pass yield and number of internal versus FAT electrical defects.

· Repeat NCR rate, rework hours, snag closure time and CAPA effectiveness.

· Calibration compliance and supplier electrical-component rejection rate.
