QC Inspector

About the role

QC Inspector role focused on quality assurance and inspection of fabricated pipes, spools, and heavy engineering components in steel fabrication and pipe manufacturing environments. The role involves performing incoming material inspection, in-process and final inspection of fabricated items, witnessing welding and coating processes, and maintaining comprehensive QC documentation and inspection records.

Key responsibilities

• Perform incoming material inspection and verify mill certificates / material traceability
• Carry out in-process and final inspection of fabricated pipes, spools, tapers, tees, bends and flanges
• Witness and verify welding, dimensional checks, lining and coating quality
• Raise NCRs (non-conformance reports), monitor rectification, and maintain inspection records
• Prepare inspection & test plans (ITP), checklists, and QC documentation / dossiers
• Liaise with production, clients, and third-party inspectors during inspections

About you

• Diploma in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Materials / Manufacturing / Quality Engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
• 2–3 years of QC/QA experience in steel fabrication, pipe manufacturing, or heavy engineering (fresh diploma holders with strong internship exposure may be considered for junior level)
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, welding symbols, isometrics, and fabrication/spool schedules
• Knowledge of relevant standards (e.g. AWS D1.1, ASME, ISO 9001, and applicable water-pipe standards such as AS/NZS or TS SPAN where relevant)
• Dimensional inspection using measuring tools — vernier calliper, micrometer, tape, gauges, weld gauges
• Understanding of welding processes (SMAW/GMAW/FCAW) and common weld defects
• Awareness of NDT methods (visual, DPI/MPI, ultrasonic, radiographic) and how to interpret reports
• Knowledge of cement-mortar lining and external coating inspection (thickness, curing, holiday testing)
• Strong attention to detail and integrity in reporting
• Good written and verbal communication (English + Bahasa Malaysia; Mandarin a plus)
