Qualified Carpenter

Job Purpose: To assist a small building team in all aspects of the carpentry trade within the construction process of residential houses and renovations.

Type of Employment: Full Time/Permanent.

Wage:$35 to $45/hr (dependent on experience and qualifications).

Place of Work: Various different building sites.  The employee will be required to transport themselves to and from work each day.

Hours of Work: Generally 8am to 5.00pm, Monday to Friday (frequently an earlier knock-off on a Friday).

Main Tasks:

• Read drawings and sketches to grasp requirements.
• Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of materials.
• Cut and shape materials according to measurements.
• Build carpentry elements (eg. frames, doors, windows, etc) using raw materials or pre-constructed items.
• Assemble and install joinery items.
• Accurately layout carpentry elements.
• Follow all health and safety requirements.
• Other tasks as directed.

Skills and Experience:

• Previous experience working in construction and have a basic working knowledge of construction.
• Knowledge of workplace safety and safe lifting and handling procedures.
• Ability to work in a team.
• Understanding of basic math.
• Confidence in using manual and power tools.
• Good organizational skills.
• Effective verbal and listening communication skills and be able to take instruction.

Performance:  The employee’s performance will be monitored on an on-going basis on site.  Periodic discussions regarding progress and performance can be conducted at either the employee’s or at Tahuna Building Ltd’s instigation, but at least once every 6 months.  The employee’s wage will be reviewed on an annual basis based on progress and performance.
