What they need

We have an exciting opportunity for a Quality & Assurance Coordinator to join Apata, based at our Mends Lane site in Te Puke.

This is a key role in supporting quality performance across our operations — working closely with teams to ensure standards are met, issues are addressed, and continuous improvement is embedded. You’ll bring strong technical capability, with the ability to influence and lift performance across both people and systems.

About Us
Trusted by kiwifruit and avocado growers since the 1980s, at Apata, we continue to live and breathe our purpose: to deliver value for all. Our key pillars — performance, leadership, transparency, and relationships — guide how we work and grow.

Our success is built on strong leadership, industry knowledge, and investing in great people and equipment. 🥝🥑

At the heart of our operations are our harvest and processing facilities in Te Puke and Katikati, supporting our growers and the wider business.

As our newest team member, you’ll be joining a well-established company where wellbeing matters and high performance is recognised. Some of the benefits our team enjoy including:

  • Private health insurance
  • Ongoing training and development
  • Paid volunteering leave
  • Clothing allowance
  • Wellbeing incentives

About the role

This role supports the delivery of consistent, high-quality outcomes across our packhouse operations by strengthening quality systems, food safety, and compliance.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Supporting quality assurance and food safety programmes to ensure compliance with industry and customer standards
  • Monitoring product quality, grading performance, and documentation accuracy across packhouse processes
  • Supporting condition checking, reject analysis, and continuous improvement of quality outcomes
  • Working alongside production teams to investigate issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions
  • Driving consistency, strong process, and a “do it right the first time” approach across operations
  • Coordinating training, guidance, and support for quality teams to build capability

This is a role where your work has a clear link to performance — quality and compliance on the floor directly support pack outcomes, customer requirements, and grower confidence.

What you’ll bring

You’ll stand out for:

  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality and accuracy
  • Experience working with quality systems, compliance, or food safety programmes
  • The ability to analyse issues, identify root causes, and implement practical improvements
  • A proactive mindset — you identify risks early and take action
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work across teams
  • Confidence working with systems, documentation, and reporting tools

About you

You’ll be someone who:

  • Is organised, practical, and focused on getting things right
  • Builds strong working relationships across operations, quality, and field teams
  • Is comfortable working in a fast-paced, seasonal environment
  • Has a continuous improvement mindset and looks for ways to do things better

Why this role matters

This role plays a key part in protecting and strengthening the quality and reputation of our product — ensuring we consistently meet customer, regulatory, and grower expectations.
