What they need

About Origin Medical Research Lab

Origin Medical Research Lab is the research arm of Origin Medical. Here, we strive to bring together the best and brightest minds at the intersection of AI and healthcare to fulfill Origin Medical’s mission.

By combining the knowledge of healthcare and AI, we are on a journey to build state-of-the-art solutions aimed at supporting a broad spectrum of healthcare providers in rural and urban communities, allowing them to practice at the top of their licenses. With AI in the imaging workflow, clinicians can more confidently deliver timely interventions, enhance pregnancy outcomes, identify high-risk pregnancies to reduce maternal mortality, and significantly lower infant mortality rates.

Origin Medical, headquartered in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, is driven by a mission to advance maternal health equity by improving access to quality prenatal care with artificial intelligence.

About the Team and the Role

Origin Medical Research Labs is looking for a QA/SDET Engineer to define and execute test strategy for embedded and cloud software as we build toward market release in a regulated Software-as-a-Medical-Device (SaMD) environment. This hands-on role covers everything from test planning and risk analysis through automation, execution, defect investigation, and FDA-aligned regulatory documentation, working closely with engineering, product, product design, clinical, and regulatory stakeholders.

W hat will you do?

  • Participate in requirements and design reviews; create software verification plans, test protocols, and risk analyses to support products progressing toward market release.
  • Design, develop, execute, and maintain automated test scripts and frameworks, and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Execute verification and validation strategies — Integration, Functional, Performance, Scalability, and Reliability testing — and run regression validation as requirements change.
  • Manage QA activities and priorities across multiple concurrent projects, providing technical direction and mentorship to junior test engineers within the team.
  • Record and track defects through the full life cycle in tools such as Jira; analyze failures and drive root-cause investigation with development teams.
  • Write test reports, maintain traceability, and report test progress and release readiness to management.
  • Establish QA metrics, track automation coverage and bug trends, and recommend process improvements.
  • Follow internal software development, cybersecurity, and validation procedures in compliance with medical device and security regulations.
  • Evaluate and apply AI-assisted development and testing tools to improve QA productivity.

Who are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field; 1 to 3.5 years of QA/test engineering experience.
  • Solid experience developing automated test scripts in Java, JavaScript, Python, or a similar language, with test plan documentation and traceability.
  • Practical experience with defect life cycle management and tracking tools such as Jira.
  • Strong grounding in manual testing methodologies — System, Unit, Regression, Integration, Black Box, White Box, and Performance/Stress testing.
  • Exposure to SaaS or cloud-based test automation spanning UI, API, and cloud services (Appium, Selenium, Playwright, Cypress, pytest, Jenkins/GitHub Actions).
  • Exposure to Generative AI, LLMs, AI agents, or AI-assisted development/testing tools.
  • Strong understanding of the software development life cycle (SDLC).
  • Prior experience in a regulated medical device or healthcare software environment is ideal.
