What they need

Department: Quality Control
Designation: CMM Engineer / CMM Programmer / CMM Inspector
Industry: CNC, VMC Machining & Precision Engineering
Experience: 2–5 years (preferred)
Qualification: Diploma / BE in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

  1. Job Summary

We are looking for a skilled CMM Quality Control Engineer to perform precision dimensional inspection of CNC- and VMC-machined components using a Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM). The candidate must be capable of interpreting engineering drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications to ensure components meet dimensional and quality requirements.

  1. Key Responsibilities

CMM Inspection and Programming

  • Operate CMM equipment for dimensional inspection of precision-machined components.
  • Develop, edit, and execute CMM inspection programs as per component drawings.
  • Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections.
  • Measure complex profiles, hole positions, true position, flatness, parallelism, perpendicularity, concentricity, and other GD&T characteristics as applicable.
  • Generate dimensional inspection reports and compare results against drawing tolerances.
  • Optimize CMM programs to improve inspection time and repeatability.

Engineering Drawing and GD&T

  • Read and interpret 2D engineering drawings, 3D CAD models, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Understand datum references, basic dimensions, positional tolerances, and profile tolerances.
  • Verify component dimensions against customer specifications and inspection plans.

Quality Control

  • Identify dimensional deviations and communicate non-conformities to the production team.
  • Coordinate with CNC/VMC operators and production engineers to resolve machining quality issues.
  • Support root cause analysis and corrective and preventive actions.
  • Ensure rejected or non-conforming components are identified and controlled.
  • Assist in reducing rejection, rework, and scrap.

Documentation and Calibration

  • Prepare and maintain CMM reports, First Article Inspection (FAI) reports, and dimensional inspection records.
  • Maintain traceability of inspection results and component identification.
  • Verify CMM calibration status and follow prescribed verification procedures.
  • Maintain measuring probes, fixtures, and accessories in proper condition.
  • Follow applicable quality procedures and customer-specific requirements.
  1. Technical Skills Required
  • Hands-on experience operating CMM machines.
  • Knowledge of CMM programming and dimensional measurement techniques.
  • Proficiency in GD&T and engineering drawing interpretation.
  • Knowledge of CNC turning, VMC milling, and precision machining processes.
  • Ability to use conventional measuring instruments such as micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and dial indicators.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 requirements is an advantage.
  • Experience with CAD models and software such as PC-DMIS, CALYPSO, or equivalent CMM software is preferred.
  1. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Accuracy and reliability of CMM inspection reports.
  • Completion of inspection within the planned time.
  • Reduction in customer complaints and dimensional rejections.
  • Timely identification and reporting of non-conformities.
  • Compliance with inspection plans and calibration requirements.
  • Effective support to production for dimensional problem-solving.
  1. Candidate Profile
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to measurement accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and coordinate with production and quality teams.
  • Good documentation and communication skills.
