Quality Assurance / Quality Control Specialist
Mid Star Lab | Tonganoxie, KS
We’re looking for someone who notices the details other people miss.
Mid Star Lab is a growing, established orthotic manufacturing company looking for a Quality Assurance / Quality Control Specialist to help us make sure the products leaving our facility meet our standards every single time.
This is a hands-on position. We aren't looking for someone who wants to sit behind a desk and write reports all day. We need someone who can be out on the manufacturing floor, inspect products, identify problems, work with employees to correct them, and help us build better processes.
If you're the person who sees something that isn't right and can't just walk past it, you may be exactly who we're looking for.
What You'll Do
Inspect finished and in-process custom orthotic products for quality, accuracy, fit, finish and consistency
Perform routine quality checks throughout the manufacturing process
Identify defects, inconsistencies and production issues before products leave the facility
- Work directly with production employees and leadership to identify the root cause of quality problems
Help establish and maintain quality standards and inspection procedures
Document quality issues and track recurring problems
Communicate quality concerns clearly and professionally with production and management
Help develop corrective actions and follow up to make sure problems are actually fixed
Assist with maintaining quality records, procedures and documentation
Monitor trends in defects, rework and returns and identify opportunities for improvement
Help train employees on quality expectations and proper procedures
Participate in process improvement initiatives throughout the lab
Maintain a clean, organized and quality-focused work environment
Step in and help wherever needed—this is a small-business manufacturing environment, and everyone wears more than one hat
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone with real-world manufacturing or quality experience who understands that quality isn't something you check at the very end—it needs to be built into the process.
Ideal experience includes:
- 2+ years of experience in quality control, quality assurance, manufacturing, production, or a related field
Experience inspecting manufactured products or working with defined quality standards
Strong attention to detail
Ability to identify problems and determine why they are happening
Comfortable working directly with production employees
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Ability to read and follow written procedures and specifications
Comfortable using basic computer programs and maintaining records
Ability to communicate concerns without creating unnecessary conflict
Reliable, consistent and willing to take ownership
Ability to work independently without needing someone constantly checking behind you
A Great Fit Would Also Have
Manufacturing quality experience
Experience with corrective/preventive actions or root-cause analysis
Experience creating or improving SOPs/work instructions
Experience with inspection processes or measuring equipment
Lean manufacturing or continuous improvement experience
Experience in medical device, healthcare, laboratory, automotive, aerospace or other regulated manufacturing environments
You do NOT need to have experience making orthotics. We can teach you our products and processes. What we need is someone who already understands quality, manufacturing and accountability.
What Success Looks Like
Six months into this role, we want you to be someone the team knows they can count on when it comes to quality.
You'll know what "good" looks like, you'll catch problems before they become bigger problems, you'll help the production team understand why something needs to be done a certain way, and you'll help us reduce rework, mistakes and returns.
Most importantly, you'll take ownership of quality instead of simply pointing out problems.
Why Mid Star Lab?
Mid Star Lab is not a giant corporation. We're a growing, family-oriented manufacturing company where your work actually matters.
We manufacture custom orthotics that are used to help people walk, work, compete and live more comfortably. That means quality matters here.
We're looking for someone who wants to be part of a team, take pride in what they do and have a real impact on how we operate.
If you're experienced enough to know what good quality looks like, practical enough to work on the floor, and confident enough to speak up when something isn't right, we want to meet you.
