Quality Control Engineer

Job Purpose

To ensure product quality through raw material inspection, in-process inspection, job inspection, final inspection, testing, and documentation as per customer drawings, specifications, and quality standards.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Raw Material Inspection

• Inspect incoming scrap, ferroalloys, and other raw materials.
• Verify material certificates and chemical composition requirements.
• Maintain material inspection and traceability records.

B. In-Process Inspection

• Conduct inspection at melting, moulding, core making, pouring, fettling, grinding, and finishing stages.
• Monitor process parameters and identify casting defects.
• Verify chemical composition through spectrometer testing and maintain heat-wise records.
• Ensure corrective action is taken for quality deviations.

C. Job Inspection

• Inspect each job as per approved customer drawings, specifications, and inspection plans.
• Verify job identification, heat number, grade, quantity, and traceability.
• Conduct visual inspection for cracks, blowholes, porosity, shrinkage, sand inclusions, and other casting defects.
• Perform dimensional inspection using suitable measuring instruments and gauges.
• Check machining jobs, where applicable, for dimensions, tolerances, surface finish, and drawing compliance.
• Prepare job inspection reports and record inspection results.
• Identify, segregate, and report non-conforming jobs.
• Coordinate with Production, Fettling, Machining, and other departments to resolve quality issues.

D. Final Inspection

• Conduct final visual and dimensional inspection before dispatch.
• Verify customer-specific requirements and applicable acceptance criteria.
• Ensure all required inspection and testing activities are completed before release.
• Prepare final inspection reports and maintain job-wise records.

E. Testing and Quality Documentation

• Coordinate hardness testing, chemical analysis, and non-destructive testing (NDT), wherever required.
• Maintain inspection reports, rejection records, rework reports, and test certificates.
• Maintain calibration status of measuring instruments.
• Support ISO 9001 / IATF 16949 requirements and customer quality audits, as applicable.

F. Non-Conformance and Corrective Action

• Identify and report internal and customer-reported quality problems.
• Conduct root cause analysis and coordinate corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor rejection, rework, and scrap levels.
• Verify the effectiveness of corrective actions.

G. Coordination and Reporting

• Coordinate with Production, Melting, Moulding, Fettling, Machining, and Dispatch departments.
• Report quality issues to the Quality Manager / Plant Head.
• Ensure only accepted jobs proceed to the next process or dispatch.

3. Required Skills

• Knowledge of steel casting manufacturing processes and casting defects.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and understand dimensional tolerances.
• Knowledge of measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and bore gauges.
• Basic knowledge of spectrometer testing, hardness testing, and NDT methods.
• Knowledge of inspection reports, quality documentation, and root cause analysis.
• Good communication, observation, and problem-solving skills.

Pay: ₹12,000.00 - ₹20,000.00 per month
