What they need

Quality Control Inspector

Position Description Summary:
Our Quality Assurance team seeks a Quality Control Inspector to conduct in-process inspections and document the results. Other duties revolve around shop floor documentation accuracy and maintenance. The successful candidate will evaluate sheet metal parts through visual, physical, and dimensional checks at critical production stages. This role prevents defects, minimizes scrap, and ensures compliance with quality management guidelines like ISO 9001. Compensation includes shift differential.

Principal Accountabilities: (The following is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not an exhaustive list of all expectations.):

  • Inspections: Perform first-article, in-process, and final pre-shipment inspections on laser-cut, formed, punched, and welded sheet metal parts.
  • Dimensional Verification: Use precision measuring tools—such as digital calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and pin gauges—to check tolerances.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, technical specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Defect Identification: Inspect parts for surface flaws, burrs, scratches, warping, cracks, and weld irregularities.
  • Non-Conformance Reporting: Tag, quarantine, and document defective or non-conforming materials to prevent them from moving down the line or shipping to customers.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate inspection logs, calibration records, and quality metrics using company software or Microsoft Excel.
  • Effectively communicate quality issues with Shift Lead, Dept. Supervisor, and QA Team
  • Assist with other duties and projects as required
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including PPE and other safety protocols

Education, Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required for Position:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 2 to 4 years of hands-on experience in quality control within a metal fabrication, machine shop, or manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with sheet metal processes (bending, shearing, laser cutting, welding) and quality frameworks like ISO 9001 standards
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to interpret mechanical drawings
  • Must be proficient in measuring parts using calipers, protractor and reading a tape measure
  • Strong interpersonal skills to clearly explain defects and work collaboratively with machine operators and production managers.
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move items up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to work in a hot/cold warehouse environment
