Quality Control Supervisor (Food Manufacturing)

ROLE OVERVIEW:

Responsible for the development and management of measuring equipment to ensure accurate laboratory testing, resolving customer complaints to ensure satisfaction, tracking and handling non-conforming products with corrective actions to prevent contamination, developing internal standards and quality monitoring systems for inputs, processes, and finished products, managing the laboratory facility to ensure a safe work environment in compliance with regulations, and developing and implementing a sampling plan and procedures in accordance with established methodology.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Calibration/Validation

• Ensures that interruption of services is eliminated due to breakdowns and failures of testing equipment.
• Ensures customer satisfaction through the use calibrated / validated test equipment with reference equipment traceable to NIST / or other calibration standards and as also supplied by the equipment manufacturer.
• Provides necessary calibration procedures to be followed by the personnel performing calibration / validation applicable for each type of test equipment.
• Ensures that personnel using the instruments are trained appropriately and understand how to both properly operate the instrument and perform all necessary routine maintenance procedures.
• Responsible for proper operating work environment to maintain and lengthen instrument life and reduces repair costs for a well-maintained instrument.
• Responsible for the proper installation and handling of equipment are followed to reduce variation in test results, and improves analyst’s confidence in the accuracy of testing results.
• Evaluates equipment performance if the instrument is operating correctly, and how these important procedures be conducted for both old and new instruments.

Validation of Customer Complaint

• Responsible for the accurate analytical methods and procedures in the validation of customer complaints.
• Conducts initial evaluation and assessment of the product in question upon receiving the complaint by conducting a re-analysis of retained sample in question.
• Determines whether the complaint is critical, serious, or standard.
• Ensures that complaint which is critical in nature should be worked in order of severity together to rectify the issue or complaint.
• Determine the investigation plan and send the product in question to 3rd party laboratory as needed.
• Ensures that the complaint investigation and documentation is completed within the same time frame.
• Responsible for the necessary direction of analyst handling the complaint sample to be completed within the specified time.
• Provides recommendations to improve the quality of production out of the result of analysis organizing reliable laboratory complaint handling.
• Responsible for implementation of product recall and product traceability in case a potential risk on shipped products happens.
• Provides training to laboratory staff on Recall and Product Traceability boast their technical and organizational knowledge.
• Keeps documentation and records of customer complaint of products released / shipped.

Identification and Monitoring of Non-conforming Product

• Ensures that non-conforming products are segregated for reprocessing to meet specified quality requirement.
• Identifies and resolves issues of non-conforming product with process owner.
• Coordinates with Factory Manager for proper disposal of a non-conforming product.
• Reviews, categorizes, and quantifies non-conformity to detect trends and identify possible avenues for improvement.
• Keeps documentation and record keeping identifying factors needing improvement to prevent the associated risk.

Inspection and Testing

• Checks inspection and sample testing results to ensure analysis are handled fairly with accuracy in accordance to standard laboratory operating procedures.
• Provides laboratory data to Production Head / supervisors for proper corrective actions or operational adjustment to attain the expected quality targets.
• Makes necessary corrections or adjustments for variances or errors in analysis.
• Coordinates with personnel from other section/department on whatever need they may have for laboratory services or testing.
• Assess personnel for competency and provide training to enhance their knowledge especially for neophytes.
• Conducts proficiency testing and review results for proper evaluation and corrective action.
• Makes recommendations based on results of analysis to improve quality of production.
• Initiates staff meeting / briefing to discuss accomplishments and intermittent problems encountered.
• Documenting data and record keeping as outputs of all inspection and testing activities as reference for production. Makes trending data analysis.

Laboratory Management

• Ensures that laboratory operating manuals contains all documentation including emergency and safety manuals and is readily available.
• Sees to it that chemicals and equipment are handled in a safe manner.
• Provides the relevant training for all staff and conducts on the job training for new laboratory analysis procedures and techniques.
• Assess laboratory personnel for competency and provide training to improve the necessary technical and organizational knowledge.
• Provides the laboratory staff the necessary PPE’s ensuring safety and health regulations are followed.
• Responsible for the laboratory asset cleaning and maintenance.
• Ensures availability of materials needed including manpower requirement.
• Responsible in maintaining good habits, proper discipline, and see to it that the company rules and regulations are duly complied while performing their duties and responsibilities.
• Maintains inventories of assets and equipment including chemicals.
• Audits assets for compliance and safety and investigate missing assets.
• Documents all risk identified and sees to it that MSDS’s are available in the laboratory.

Sampling

• Performs routine and non-routine analyses of samples from various sources to provide information and verify the qualities of raw material, utility deliveries, in-process products, finish products, storage / shore tanks, product transfers, loading / shipments, etc. including samples obtained from Boiler Plant and Wastewater Treatment Plant.
• Monitors proper sampling, collection, and preparation procedure of samplers.
• Prepares test solutions and chemical reagents and always maintains sufficient quantity.
• Ensures that quality specifications of products are met and agrees to standards and product specifications.
• Inform supervisor / operators or any concerned personnel on the result of analysis.
• Provides accurate and prompt analytical results and/or reports to the requesting party.
• Recommends action to be taken in case variation goes beyond acceptable limits observed for appropriate adjustments in operating conditions and/or equipment.

Other Responsibilities

• Adhere to and comply with all management programs implemented by the company, including but not limited to food safety and quality management system, environmental, health, and safety regulations, sustainability initiatives, and operational excellence frameworks.
• Perform other related jobs as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• A graduate of Chemistry; preferably licensed.
• At least 2-3 years relevant work experience.
