Quality Control Technician / Shop Coordinator

About Us:

The Bright Works is a Nashville structural steel and metal fabrication company specializing in commercial steel erection, stairs, handrails, and miscellaneous metals. We are adding a dedicated Quality Control Technician to make sure every piece leaves our shop right the first time.

What you'll do:

• Inspect layout, fit-up, and finished assemblies against shop drawings before parts leave the shop
• Perform visual weld inspection and verify work against WPS and project requirements
• Verify incoming material (grade, size, heat numbers) and maintain traceability records
• Review shop drawings and flag conflicts or missing information before fabrication starts
• Document nonconformances, identify root causes, and work with shop leads on corrective action
• Run inspection checkpoints and hold production at each stage until requirements are met
• Support shop safety: toolbox talks, equipment and PPE checks, and incident reporting
• Track job progress through the shop and help coordinate scheduling, load-out, and shipping
• Follow up on field issues and punch list items to correct problems at the source
• Maintain calibration and condition of measuring tools and inspection equipment

What we're looking for:

• Experience in structural steel or metal fabrication
• Ability to read and interpret shop and structural drawings
• Strong attention to detail and comfort with tape measures, levels, and squares
• Familiarity with AWS D1.1 and visual weld inspection (CWI or CWI-in-training preferred, not required)
• Clear communication and the confidence to stop work when something is wrong
• Basic computer skills for logging inspections and reports
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation

Nice to have:

• AWS CWI, or willingness to pursue certification
• Six Sigma
• OSHA 10/30
• Experience with NCR tracking, ITPs, or quality documentation
