Quality Engineer

Job Description Summary

The Manufacturing Quality Engineer is responsible for leading quality assurance and quality control activities within an assigned manufacturing cell. You will work closely with Production, Manufacturing Engineering and other cross-functional teams to improve product quality, reduce defects and ensure compliance with applicable quality standards.

This position owns the quality performance and key quality metrics of the assigned cell and reports directly to the Senior Quality Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Serve as the Build-in-Quality champion for the assigned manufacturing cell, including Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
• Facilitate the Management of Change (MOC) process for manufacturing and quality-related changes.
• Review non-conformances and monitor defect trends to establish appropriate short-, medium- and long-term corrective actions.
• Lead root cause analysis and problem-solving activities and ensure the effective implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
• Lead Quality Improvement Projects to support the cell’s safety, quality, delivery and cost objectives.
• Develop and implement initiatives to reduce manufacturing defects and improve process capability.
• Manage Cost of Poor Quality issues and improvement actions within the assigned cell.
• Investigate and resolve customer quality complaints relating to the cell’s products.
• Support the implementation of and adherence to Quality Management System requirements.
• Promote quality awareness through regular communication, quality briefings and appropriate use of stop-work authority.
• Conduct or support internal supply chain and quality audits to identify compliance gaps and improvement opportunities.
• Partner with Production, Engineering and other functions to address manufacturing quality issues and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial, Materials, Aerospace or another relevant engineering discipline from a recognised university or institution.
• At least three years of relevant experience in quality engineering, manufacturing engineering, production engineering, process engineering or a related technical role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Practical experience in manufacturing quality assurance, non-conformance management, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across different functions.
• Experience in gas turbine component manufacturing, repair or other highly regulated industrial manufacturing environments would be advantageous.

Desired Characteristics

• Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems and experience conducting or supporting internal quality audits.
• Hands-on experience with quality tools such as PFMEA, MSA, 8D, 5 Whys, Fishbone Analysis and statistical process control.
• Strong root cause analysis and problem-solving capabilities, particularly for complex technical or manufacturing issues.
• Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
• Experience driving defect reduction, process improvement or Cost of Poor Quality initiatives.
• Ability to promote and sustain a strong built-in-quality culture within a manufacturing environment.
• Self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
