What they need
Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated Quality Inspector to join our quality team. In this role, you will assume responsibility for ensuring that raw materials, purchased parts, in-process work, and finished products for hardware and mechanical assemblies meet engineering specifications, customer requirements, and company quality standards. This role performs incoming, first article (FAI) and in-process inspections and tests, documents results, and identifies nonconforming product so that only conforming parts reach the customer. The ideal candidate should possess a strong foundation in mechanical systems and hardware assembly, practical mathematical skills, and a methodical approach to troubleshooting and root cause analysis. Success in this role requires technical curiosity, attention to detail, and the ability to apply fundamental principles across mechanical, material, and manufacturing disciplines to identify defects, determine root causes, and support corrective actions. With at least 2 years in a quality-related role in manufacturing, you demonstrate a passion for quality, high attention to detail and an ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Perform incoming, in-process, and final product and assembly inspections using drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, bills of materials, specifications, and work instructions.
- Perform visual inspections and functional tests per defined acceptance criteria.
- Verify first-article inspections on new or changed products.
- Measure parts with calipers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators, pin gauges, thread gauges, and other precision instruments.
- Accurately record inspection results, test data, nonconformances, and corrective actions in quality systems and logs.
- Complete inspection reports, certificates of conformance, and traceability records.
- Initiate nonconformance reports and support material review activities.
- Initiate and manage root cause investigations and corrective and preventive actions. Generate vendor non-conformance and corrective action reports.
- Support production with real-time feedback in the form of quality performance metrics and trends to prevent defects.
- Follow ISO 9001 requirements as applicable.
- Support internal, customer, and third-party audits.
- Participate in 5S and continuous improvement activities including inspection methods, quality procedures, work instructions and test protocols.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or technical certificate preferred.
- 2+ years of quality inspection experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong foundational knowledge of mechanical systems, hardware assembly, machining processes and basic mechanical properties.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints/engineering drawings.
- Familiarization with metrology principles: proficiency with precision measuring tools and gauges.
- Basic math skills, including arithmetic, fractions, ratios, percentages, decimals, and unit conversions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially excel.
- ASQ Certified Quality Inspector (CQI) or similar certification preferred.
- Familiarity with SPC, sampling plans (e.g., ANSI/ASQ Z1.4), and measurement system analysis (gauge R&R) preferred.
- Basic understanding of lean manufacturing concepts is a plus.
