Quality Manager
Dyersville Die Cast | Dyersville, Iowa
Full-time | Salaried | In person
Lead the team, strengthen our processes, and help drive quality throughout our manufacturing operations.
The Opportunity
Dyersville Die Cast is seeking an experienced, hands-on Quality Manager to lead and develop our Quality Department. This position oversees daily quality operations, customer quality requirements, and the continued effectiveness of our ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System.
We’re looking for a leader who is comfortable working on the production floor, developing employees, communicating directly with customers, and following problems through to a lasting solution. You will work closely with Engineering, Production, the Tool Room, and company leadership to prevent defects, reduce scrap and rework, and improve overall manufacturing performance.
What You’ll Do
- Lead and develop the Quality team. Direct daily activities, establish priorities, manage inspection coverage, evaluate performance, and provide training and coaching.
- Manage the Quality Management System. Maintain and improve ISO 9001:2015 procedures, documentation, internal audits, and corrective actions; coordinate external audits and support management reviews.
- Serve as a primary customer quality contact. Address concerns, clarify specifications, coordinate responses, and ensure corrective actions are completed accurately and on time.
- Lead problem-solving efforts. Investigate customer complaints and internal defects using structured root-cause analysis, containment, corrective action, and verification of effectiveness.
- Stay involved in daily inspection activities. Support first-piece approvals, in-process checks, final inspections, dimensional layouts, and other inspection needs.
- Interpret technical requirements. Review drawings, tolerances, GD&T, finish requirements, and customer specifications to establish clear inspection and acceptance criteria.
- Oversee inspection equipment and calibration. Ensure measuring equipment is suitable, maintained, calibrated, and used correctly, including calipers, micrometers, gauges, and CMM equipment.
- Support new product launches and process changes. Coordinate quality planning and documentation using APQP, PPAP, FMEA, control plans, MSA, and capability studies, as applicable.
- Monitor quality performance. Track customer complaints, scrap, rework, and recurring defects; use data to establish priorities and measure improvement.
- Strengthen process controls. Audit production processes and inspection practices, identify gaps, and work with department leaders to prevent quality issues.
- Control nonconforming product. Coordinate identification, segregation, disposition, and verification of suspect or rejected material.
- Build quality knowledge throughout the plant. Train employees on inspection methods, customer requirements, measuring equipment, and quality procedures.
- Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives, and perform other duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
- Minimum of five years of quality experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment.
- Prior management or supervisory experience strongly preferred, with the ability to lead teams, set expectations, and hold employees accountable.
- Experience with die casting, machining, metal fabrication, or related manufacturing processes preferred.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 and experience supporting quality system audits.
- Understanding and practical application of AIAG core tools, including APQP, PPAP, FMEA, MSA, and SPC.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerances, and customer specifications.
- Hands-on experience with precision measuring equipment and dimensional inspection; CMM experience preferred.
- Strong root-cause analysis and corrective action skills.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to handle customer concerns professionally.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and follow-through.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and software used for quality records, reporting, and data analysis.
- Ability to work effectively across departments while maintaining quality standards and customer requirements.
