What they need

Quality Technician – Packaging

Our client is seeking a Quality Technician to inspect, sample, test and document incoming packaging components before they are used in manufacturing or packaging operations. This hands-on position focuses on packaging quality, including visual, dimensional and functional inspection, while supporting raw-material sampling and other quality activities as needed.

You will work with bottles, caps and closures, pumps, sprayers, labels, cartons, pails and other packaging materials. The role involves detailed, repetitive inspection in warehouse and manufacturing environments and close collaboration with Warehouse, Purchasing, Production, Quality and Engineering.

In this role, you will:

  • Inspect incoming packaging against approved specifications, drawings, purchase orders and reference samples.
  • Perform visual, dimensional, physical and functional testing, including checks of dimensions, fit, closure/torque functionality, seal integrity, appearance, color and print/label quality.
  • Identify, classify and document cosmetic, dimensional, molding, printing, fit and functional defects using established inspection criteria.
  • Conduct sampling and inspection according to approved procedures, sampling plans and AQL requirements, including ISO 2859-1 or applicable internal/customer standards.
  • Verify material identity, supplier, item number, lot/batch number, quantity and expiration or retest dates, where applicable.
  • Review Certificates of Analysis (CoAs), Certificates of Conformance (CoCs) and other supplier documentation for completeness and conformance.
  • Maintain accurate, traceable inspection and test records in forms, logs, ERP or Quality Management System platforms.
  • Place or maintain materials on Quality Hold when inspection, documentation or acceptance requirements are incomplete, or when defects are identified.
  • Communicate discrepancies and inspection failures promptly and support material disposition and escalation activities.
  • Assist with packaging and material investigations, providing inspection data, defect samples and photographs to support supplier follow-up and corrective actions.
  • Collect representative raw-material samples using approved procedures and submit them to the appropriate laboratory or Quality function for testing.
  • Support audits, document reviews, data collection, retention samples, continuous improvement and other assigned quality activities.
  • Maintain inspection equipment and verify that calibration status is current before use.
  • Follow applicable Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), standard operating procedures, safety, housekeeping and Quality Management System requirements.

What you bring:

  • Previous experience in incoming inspection, packaging quality, Quality Control, Quality Assurance, manufacturing or a related regulated environment is preferred.
  • Packaging inspection experience and familiarity with bottles, closures, pumps, sprayers, labels, cartons or molded components is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of GMP, AQL sampling, inspection methods, defect classification and quality documentation.
  • Ability to interpret specifications, drawings, SOPs, inspection standards, approved samples and supplier certificates.
  • Ability to use basic inspection equipment such as calipers, micrometers, scales, torque testers or gauges. Training may be provided for specialized equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify subtle defects and document findings accurately.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments and with suppliers.
  • An associate or bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Packaging Science, Quality, Manufacturing, Chemistry, Biology or a related technical field is preferred. Relevant inspection or manufacturing experience may also be considered.
  • Experience in OTC, cosmetics, personal care, pharmaceutical, food, household chemical or other regulated manufacturing is an asset.

The position requires working in warehouse and manufacturing environments, following required PPE and safety procedures, handling and inspecting packaging samples, and performing repetitive inspection activities. You must be able to distinguish visual defects, colors, print quality and component differences relevant to the work.

If your background includes hands-on packaging inspection and testing, we would welcome your application.
