The role focuses on planning and executing verification and validation activities to ensure products meet engineering specifications and customer requirements. You will lead process and product testing, identify and document defects, support tolerance analysis and inspections, and drive continuous improvement through audits and robust documentation. The ideal candidate combines hands-on test experience with strong knowledge of composites manufacturing processes, tolerance control, and quality systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, develop, and execute test and verification programs for composite assemblies and manufactured parts to validate performance against specifications.
- Design and implement test procedures, fixtures, and measurement methods to assess material, process, and product quality.
- Perform root cause analysis of defects found during testing or manufacturing; recommend corrective and preventive actions and verify effectiveness.
- Conduct manufacturing process audits and supplier quality audits; document findings and follow up on corrective action plans.
- Execute dimensional and tolerance inspections using appropriate measuring equipment; ensure parts meet specified tolerances and drawing requirements.
- Generate clear, accurate test reports, nonconformance reports, and engineering documentation in accordance with quality management system standards.
- Collaborate with design, manufacturing, and materials teams to improve producibility, reduce defects, and optimize test coverage.
- Support qualification and acceptance activities for new processes and materials, including composites layup, curing, and machining operations.
- Maintain calibration and traceability of test equipment and ensure compliance with safety and quality procedures.
- Train production and inspection staff on test methods, defect recognition, and documentation best practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field; equivalent experience considered.
- 3+ years experience in quality testing, verification, or inspection in a manufacturing environment, preferably with composites.
- Hands-on experience with material and product testing methods, nondestructive inspection (NDT) techniques, and defect characterization.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes for composites (layup, curing, trimming) and conventional manufacturing methods.
- Experience conducting audits, creating corrective action plans, and working within a quality management system (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).
- Proficiency with dimensional inspection tools (CMM, calipers, micrometers) and familiarity with tolerance analysis.
- Excellent documentation skills, including preparing test plans, reports, and engineering change documentation.
- Analytical problem-solving skills and experience performing root cause analysis (e.g., 8D, FMEA).
- Effective communication and collaboration skills; ability to work across teams and with suppliers.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage multiple test programs and priorities.
