What they need

Bridgefront Capital is a growing quantitative investment firm based in Austin, Texas. Interns work directly with portfolio managers and senior colleagues from leading quantitative trading firms on our small, highly technical team. We deploy fully automated strategies in 17 countries, with over $1 billion in global portfolio exposure.
We are seeking exceptional undergraduates for a summer internship following their junior year. You will investigate how markets function, develop and test investment hypotheses, and apply quantitative methods to real research questions. With close mentorship, you will take ownership of a substantive research project, from the initial question through analysis and interpretation.
The internship is designed for students interested in a full-time quantitative research role after graduation.
In this role you will:
- Learn how markets function and formulate testable hypotheses about prices, risk, trading behavior, and investment opportunities.
- Carry a research project through experimental design, modeling, and interpretation with guidance from senior researchers.
- Develop and evaluate features and machine-learning models, testing whether results hold up on unseen data.
- Use AI-assisted research tools to accelerate exploration while independently validating their output and taking responsibility for conclusions.
- Present your approach and findings to the team, including unsuccessful results, limitations, and proposed next steps.
Strong candidates will have:
- A strong interest in financial markets, trading, and converting empirical insights into investment decisions.
- Prior professional finance experience is not required.
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s program in mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, engineering, econometrics, or another highly quantitative field, with junior year completed by the internship start date and a return to undergraduate study afterward.
- Strong foundations in probability, statistics, and linear algebra, plus familiarity with machine learning and empirical research through coursework or projects.
- Strong Python and/or R skills for analyzing data, implementing models, and conducting reproducible quantitative experiments.
- Evidence of original thinking through substantial coursework, research, independent projects, competitions, or prior quantitative experience.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Familiarity with modern AI research tools and the judgment to test, validate, and take responsibility for their output.
We offer competitive internship compensation and a low-ego environment for people who are intensely competitive, take ownership, hold themselves to high standards, and are motivated by exceptional results.
