What they need
We’re looking for a Junior Consultant to join a growing UK consultancy specialising in credit risk, data and applied AI for regulated lenders.
This opportunity is designed for someone with a strong quantitative background who wants to build a career in credit risk modelling and work on projects where the analysis you produce can reach a client within weeks.
You’ll work alongside experienced consultants on real engagements, developing your technical skills while learning how credit models are built, tested, documented and validated.
What you’ll be doing
During your first year, you’ll gain exposure to a broad range of credit risk modelling work, including:
- Preparing, cleaning and sense-checking modelling datasets from client data
- Writing clear, reusable Python code
- Querying and working with client data using SQL
- Running estimation, calibration and back-testing under the guidance of senior colleagues
- Reproducing and investigating modelling results
- Producing tables, charts and analysis for client presentations
- Supporting model documentation and validation reports
- Learning about clients’ portfolios, products, customers and data
- Taking part in client calls and following up on actions
- Carrying out quality checks, reconciliations and sense-checks on your work
- Using AI tools to support modelling, documentation, review and automation
- Gaining exposure to topics such as IFRS 9 expected credit loss, IRB models, application and behavioural scorecards, and model validation.
What we’re looking for
We’re interested in candidates who can demonstrate strong quantitative ability, coding skills and the ability to take work through to completion.
You’ll ideally have:
- 0–1 year of professional experience — applications are welcome from final-year students and recent graduates
- A BSc or MSc in a quantitative discipline, such as mathematics, statistics, physics, econometrics, engineering, computer science or a similar subject
- A strong academic record, typically 2:1 or above
- An MSc is preferred
- Demonstrable Python experience — this could be through a GitHub repository, dissertation, personal project, competition entry or similar
- Evidence of completing quantitative work, such as a dissertation, research project, placement or internship
- Confidence working with data, including loading, cleaning and interpreting datasets
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Curiosity about lending, financial services and regulation
- The ability and motivation to learn technical material quickly
