About the opportunity

An opportunity exists for an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join Altrad’s Projects West division, supporting the delivery of a major SMP construction project at Alkimos.

Working closely with the Project Manager, Commercial Manager, Cost Control and wider project team, you will play a key role in managing project quantities, cost estimates, budgets, variations, progress claims and commercial reporting. You’ll provide the financial and quantity insight required to support effective project delivery, identify emerging risks and maintain strong governance throughout the project lifecycle.

This is a hands-on, site based project role suited to a Quantity Surveyor who enjoys working closely with construction teams and translating physical progress into accurate commercial outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare detailed cost estimates, quantity take-offs and Bills of Quantities aligned with project scope and design requirements.
  • Work closely with Cost control and Commercial to monitor project budgets, commitments and expenditure against approved financial targets.
  • Manage project quantities and identify changes to scope, quantities and cost.
  • Review and assess subcontractor claims, variations and progress payments.
  • Support the preparation, assessment and negotiation of commercial variations,   and monthly payment claims.
  • Verify physical progress and ensure quantities and claims accurately reflect work completed.
  • Work closely with Site Engineers, Construction Managers, Supervisors and Planners to understand scope, progress and cost implications.
  • Provide accurate cost and progress information to support forecasting and project reporting.
  • Assist with weekly and monthly commercial and financial reporting.
  • Undertake cost analysis and value engineering to identify opportunities for improved project outcomes.
  • Support the identification and mitigation of commercial and cost-related risks.

About you

You’re an experienced Quantity Surveyor who combines strong technical capability with practical commercial understanding. You’ll be comfortable working in a site environment, with the ability to build strong relationships with construction teams while maintaining a clear focus on cost, quantity and commercial outcomes.

You will possess:

  • Degree or qualification in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years’ experience in Quantity Surveying or a similar commercial role.
  • Experience across major construction, SMP, infrastructure, resources, energy or heavy industrial projects.
  • Strong experience in cost estimation, quantity measurement, cost control and commercial reporting.
  • Demonstrated experience managing variations, progress claims and subcontractor commercial matters.
  • Strong understanding of Australian construction contracts and relevant standards, including AS4000 and/or AS2124.
  • Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in relevant cost management and estimating systems
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with project, engineering, construction, procurement and commercial teams.
  • Experience working on major project sites is highly regarded.
  • AIQS, RICS or equivalent membership/chartered status will be viewed favourably.
