Quantity Surveyor

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join Mega City Builder Sdn Bhd in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in our construction projects, ensuring accurate cost estimation, budget management, and financial control throughout all project phases. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be instrumental in delivering projects on time and within budget, providing strategic financial oversight that directly impacts the profitability and success of our construction initiatives.

What you'll be doing

• Preparing detailed quantity take-offs and cost estimates for construction projects from architectural and engineering drawings
• Conducting feasibility studies and preliminary cost analysis to support project planning and bidding decisions
• Developing and maintaining accurate project budgets, tracking costs against estimates throughout project execution
• Managing variations, claims and contract changes, ensuring appropriate documentation and approval processes
• Preparing tender documents, specifications and bill of quantities for competitive bidding
• Liaising with architects, engineers, contractors and clients to clarify design requirements and resolve cost-related issues
• Monitoring material and labour costs, identifying potential cost savings and efficiency improvements
• Preparing financial reports and reconciliation statements for project stakeholders and management
• Ensuring compliance with relevant construction standards, regulations and contractual obligations
• Supporting the tender process and providing cost advice during negotiations with suppliers and subcontractors

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Civil Engineering or a related discipline
• Professional qualification such as RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) or equivalent Malaysian qualification preferred
• Minimum 5 years' experience in quantity surveying or estimating within the construction industry
• Proficiency in cost estimation software and building information modelling (BIM) tools
• Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, contracts and industry standards
• Excellent numerical and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and project management software
• Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to liaise effectively with diverse stakeholders
• Experience with tender preparation and contract administration
• Knowledge of Malaysian construction regulations and procurement practices
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work under pressure to meet deadlines
