What they need
About Us
We are a small, growing main contractor delivering high-quality projects across the commercial, residential, infrastructure and public sectors.
We are looking for a practical, commercially minded Quantity Surveyor to manage the day-to-day commercial aspects of our projects. You will work closely with the business owners and project teams, with the opportunity to see the direct impact of your work.
We welcome applications from candidates looking for either full-time or part-time work, with hours and working patterns to be agreed.
The Role
This role would suit someone with established quantity surveying experience who is comfortable managing their own workload and taking responsibility for project costs.
You will be involved from procurement through to final account, helping projects stay on budget, protecting cash flow and ensuring variations are properly recorded and valued.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys being involved in the detail, building relationships and working as part of a small team.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day commercial aspects of allocated construction projects.
- Prepare and update project budgets, cost reports and forecasts.
- Obtain and assess subcontractor quotations, agree packages and support procurement.
- Prepare and submit applications for payment and agree valuations with clients or their representatives.
- Identify, price and agree variations, maintaining clear supporting records.
- Assess subcontractor applications and prepare payment recommendations.
- Monitor project costs, cash flow and commercial risks, raising concerns promptly.
- Prepare and agree final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
- Work closely with site teams to keep commercial information accurate and up to date.
- Help improve straightforward commercial processes as the business grows.
About You
You will have enough practical experience to carry out core quantity surveying duties independently, while keeping the wider team informed and recognising when an issue needs discussion or escalation.
We are looking for someone who brings:
- Previous quantity surveying experience with a main contractor, ideally within a small or medium-sized construction business.
- Experience managing valuations, variations, subcontractor accounts and cost reporting.
- A sound understanding of construction contracts and payment procedures.
- Strong numerical skills, attention to detail and confidence using Excel.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to prioritise across projects.
- Clear communication skills and a practical approach to negotiation and problem-solving.
- The confidence to take ownership and work without close day-to-day supervision.
A relevant qualification in quantity surveying or commercial management is desirable, although we also welcome candidates with equivalent practical experience. Chartered status is not essential.
What We Offer
- Full-time or part-time hours, with an agreed working pattern.
- Salary dependent on experience and agreed hours.
- A varied role with ownership of your work.
- Direct access to the business owners and close working relationships with project teams.
- A friendly, supportive working environment where your contribution is visible.
- Opportunities to develop your skills and responsibilities as the business grows.
Location: Hybrid, with regular visits to project sites across London required. Applicants must be willing and able to travel between sites as part of the role.
