What they need
Job Overview
We are a family-run building company carrying out a wide variety of construction, refurbishment and maintenance projects. Due to continued growth, we are looking for an experienced and organised Quantity Surveyor to join our team.
This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys working within a smaller, friendly company where they can be involved in projects from the initial enquiry and pricing stage right through to completion and final account.
The Role
The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for the commercial and cost management of our projects, working closely with our directors, office team, site foremen, subcontractors, suppliers and clients.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Preparing estimates and quotations from drawings, specifications and site visits.
- Carrying out take-offs and producing detailed material and labour costs.
- Preparing and submitting tenders.
- Obtaining and comparing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Pricing variations and additional works.
- Monitoring project costs and budgets throughout each job.
- Preparing interim valuations and applications for payment.
- Checking and agreeing subcontractor applications and invoices.
- Managing project profitability and identifying potential overspends.
- Keeping accurate records of variations and additional works.
- Liaising regularly with site foremen to monitor progress.
- Attending site meetings and client meetings when required.
- Preparing cost reports and forecasts.
- Agreeing final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
- Assisting with procurement and ordering where required.
- Helping ensure projects are commercially well managed from start to finish.
About You
We are looking for someone who is organised, commercially aware and confident dealing with clients and subcontractors.
You should be comfortable working independently while also being part of a close-knit team. As a family-run business, we value someone who is approachable, reliable and prepared to help wherever needed rather than having a rigid corporate approach to the role.
Previous quantity surveying or construction estimating experience is essential, along with good knowledge of construction methods, materials and costs.
Good computer skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage several projects at the same time are also important.
What We Offer
You will be joining a friendly, established family business where you will work directly with the people making the decisions and have the opportunity to make a genuine contribution to the company's continued growth.
Salary: Negotiable depending on experience.
Hours: 8.30-17.00 - Part time or full time considered
Location: Paignton.
Pay: £33,873.47-£50,000.00 per year
Benefits:
- Casual dress
- Free parking
- On-site parking
Work Location: In person
