What they need
Company Overview
Our client is an established Irish cost and commercial advisory business, delivering independent cost management services to a wide range of public and private sector clients nationwide. Their work covers projects of all sizes, from individual buildings through to large, multi-phase developments.
Over many years, the practice has earned a strong reputation for accuracy, integrity and client focus, and much of its workload is repeat business from long-standing clients. This gives the team a steady and varied flow of projects and a stable environment in which to develop.
The business takes a genuine interest in the growth of its people, and many of its senior staff have progressed through the practice. With demand continuing across their core sectors, they are now looking to bring a Quantity Surveyor into the Dublin office.
Working Environment & Projects
Working from the Dublin office, you will support and increasingly lead the cost management of projects across large commercial developments, residential schemes, retail, education and civic facilities. The variety of sectors and clients means no two projects are the same, helping you build broad, well-rounded experience quickly.
You will work closely with experienced senior surveyors and directors who take an active role in coaching and developing their teams. The workforce is long-standing and multicultural, with a friendly, inclusive culture where questions are welcomed and good work is recognised.
From early-stage estimates and cost plans through to tender, post-contract and final account, you will gain experience at every stage. As your confidence grows, you will be given more ownership of projects and client relationships, along with opportunities to raise your profile in the wider market.
Responsibilities
- Prepare estimates, cost plans and cost reports under the guidance of senior team members
- Carry out measurement and prepare bills of quantities and tender documentation
- Assist with tender processes, including analysis and preparation of tender reports
- Prepare interim valuations, assess variations and maintain accurate cost records during the post-contract stage
- Support the preparation and agreement of final accounts
- Attend site visits, client and design team meetings, building strong working relationships
- Take increasing ownership of smaller projects as your experience develops
What You Need
- Experience as a Quantity Surveyor, ideally gained within a PQS or cost consultancy environment in Ireland or the UK
- Exposure to one or more of the commercial, residential, retail, education or civic sectors is beneficial but not essential
- A solid grounding in measurement, cost planning and post-contract cost management
- Some familiarity with Irish contract forms such as the Public Works Contracts or RIAI forms is advantageous
- A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related discipline, and working towards chartership with MSCSI or MRICS
- Strong numerical, organisational and communication skills, with good attention to detail
- Confidence using measurement and cost management software (e.g. CostX or similar)
What You'll Get in Return
This role offers a salary of €65,000, alongside a competitive benefits package and structured support towards chartership with the SCSI or RICS, including mentoring through the assessment process. You will gain broad experience across multiple sectors with a practice that has a long track record of developing its people from within. With a stable and varied pipeline, there is a clear pathway to Senior Quantity Surveyor and beyond as your experience grows.
