About the Opportunity

Atlasphere Search is recruiting a Quantity Surveyor for a residential construction opportunity in Stellenbosch, Western Cape.

We are looking for a commercially minded, detail-oriented individual with strong measurement and construction costing skills to support the day-to-day financial and commercial management of a residential construction project.

This is a hands-on, site-based role that requires accurate cost control, subcontractor payment verification, procurement support and effective financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities

Budget & Cost Control

• Monitor project expenditure against approved budgets and Bills of Quantities (BOQs).
• Track committed costs, actual expenditure and forecast final costs.
• Identify potential cost overruns and commercial risks.
• Investigate cost variances and assist with cost-to-complete forecasting.

Subcontractor Measurement & Payment Certification

• Review subcontractor payment claims and independently verify work completed on site.
• Measure quantities against drawings, agreed rates, orders and previous certificates.
• Prepare accurate subcontractor payment certificates.
• Resolve discrepancies and maintain accurate measurement records.
• Ensure incomplete, defective or unsupported work is not certified for payment.

Procurement & Purchase Orders

• Review site requisitions against approved budgets.
• Obtain and compare quotations.
• Negotiate pricing and verify expenditure approvals.
• Prepare Purchase Orders and ensure accurate cost allocation.
• Assist with long-lead procurement planning.

Variation Management

• Identify, measure and price variations.
• Maintain an accurate Variation Register.
• Track variation submissions, approvals and supporting documentation.

Cost Reporting & Systems

• Prepare budget-versus-actual and cost-to-complete reports.
• Maintain accurate project costing and financial records.
• Support Candy and BuildSmart reporting where applicable.
• Identify commercial risks and communicate concerns to management.

Qualifications & Experience

Requirements:

• Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
• Relevant construction experience preferred.
• Strong measurement and construction costing ability.
• Good understanding of subcontractor payment certification.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings and Bills of Quantities.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Valid driver's licence and reliable transport.
• Comfortable working in a site-based environment.

Highly Preferred / Advantageous:

• Previous experience with Candy and BuildSmart.
• Residential construction experience.
