Benefits: £6,500 car allowance for petrol/diesel vehicles or £8,000 for electric vehicles, 22 days annual leave plus bank holidays, life insurance and pension.

The Role

We are recruiting an experienced Quantity Surveyor to join a large, established property maintenance and construction contractor operating across responsive repairs, planned works and voids.

Based in the Winchester area, this is an excellent opportunity to join a business with a dedicated painting department, where the main focus of the role will be the commercial management of painting and decorating works.

The company delivers a varied range of projects, and candidates with experience in any painting-related sector will be considered, including social housing, planned maintenance, commercial painting, domestic decorating and new-build projects.

This position would suit a Quantity Surveyor who understands the commercial side of painting contracts and is confident managing costs, valuations, subcontractors and financial performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the commercial aspects of painting and decorating contracts across planned works, responsive maintenance and void property programmes.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, cost plans and financial forecasts.
  • Carry out regular cost reporting, monitoring expenditure against agreed budgets.
  • Prepare, submit and agree interim valuations and final accounts.
  • Measure and value painting and decorating works, ensuring accurate pricing and cost control.
  • Manage subcontractor accounts, valuations, payments and final accounts.
  • Obtain and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Identify variations, additional works and potential commercial risks.
  • Monitor project profitability and identify opportunities to improve margins.
  • Work closely with operational managers, contracts managers and the painting department to ensure works are delivered within budget.
  • Assist with tendering, estimating and pricing new painting contracts where required.
  • Ensure contractual procedures and commercial reporting requirements are followed.
  • Maintain accurate commercial records and provide regular financial updates to senior management.

Requirements

  • Previous experience working as a Quantity Surveyor or in a similar commercial role.
  • Experience managing the commercial aspects of painting and decorating works is highly desirable.
  • Candidates from social housing maintenance, planned works, commercial painting, domestic decorating, new-build or general construction backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
  • Good understanding of valuations, variations, subcontractor payments, cost reporting and final accounts.
  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to manage budgets and protect contract profitability.
  • Good communication, negotiation and organisational skills.
  • Competent with Microsoft Excel and standard commercial reporting systems.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with operational teams.

What's on Offer?

  • Salary of £55,000–£60,000 per annum, depending on experience.
  • £6,500 car allowance for petrol or diesel vehicles.
  • £8,000 car allowance for electric vehicles.
  • 22 days annual leave plus bank holidays.
  • Company pension.
  • Life insurance.
  • Opportunity to join a large, established contractor with a dedicated painting department and a substantial maintenance and planned works portfolio.
