What they need
Due to continued growth, Loftus-Group is looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or Quantity Surveyor to join our commercial team, working across our roofing and social housing refurbishment projects.
You’ll be involved throughout the commercial process, from tendering and contract reviews through to applications, subcontractor payments and final accounts.
We’re open to someone looking to develop their commercial experience or an experienced Quantity Surveyor who can take ownership of their own projects. Responsibilities will reflect your experience, with opportunities to develop and progress as the business grows.
Key responsibilities
Depending on your experience, you’ll support or take responsibility for:
- Reviewing tender enquiries, scopes of work and pricing documents, and preparing quotations and tender submissions.
- Carrying out commercial due diligence on new projects, reviewing contract terms, payment arrangements and obligations, and highlighting risks before acceptance.
- Obtaining and comparing subcontractor quotations, agreeing scopes and rates, and preparing subcontractor orders.
- Preparing and submitting client applications for payment, ensuring completed works are accurately measured, valued and supported.
- Reviewing client assessments and payment notices, resolving discrepancies and progressing outstanding valuations.
- Assessing subcontractor applications, verifying completed works and preparing payment notices and recommendations for approval.
- Identifying, pricing and agreeing variations, ensuring changes and additional works are properly recorded and instructed.
- Monitoring project costs, income and margins, maintaining forecasts and supporting cost-value reconciliations.
- Tracking outstanding payments and working with the wider team to support cash flow.
- Preparing and agreeing client and subcontractor final accounts.
- Working closely with site teams, clients and subcontractors to confirm progress, resolve commercial queries and maintain accurate information.
About you
We’re looking for someone organised, commercially aware and confident working with numbers, with:
- Experience in quantity surveying, commercial support or a similar construction role.
- An understanding of applications for payment, subcontractor valuations and project costs appropriate to your experience.
- Strong attention to detail and good Excel skills.
- The ability to manage competing deadlines and maintain accurate records.
- Good communication skills and confidence dealing with colleagues, clients and subcontractors.
- A practical approach, willingness to learn and ability to take ownership of your work.
A relevant qualification, or working towards one, would be an advantage. We also welcome applications from candidates with suitable practical experience.
A CSCS card is not essential when applying, but you must be willing to obtain the appropriate card as part of the role.
