Build Your Career With a Growing Construction Company
Arcon Contracting is a growing construction company working across the private residential and commercial construction sectors.
Our work includes:
- Private house extensions and renovations
- New-build residential projects
- Commercial ceilings and partitions
- Fit-out packages for Tier 1 and Tier 2 main contractors
We are looking for an ambitious Quantity Surveyor with 2–4 years' experience to join our growing team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has built a good foundation in Quantity Surveying and now wants to develop their project management and commercial skills while taking on more responsibility.
The Role
This is a varied role combining Quantity Surveying, commercial management and project coordination.
Approximately half of your time will be focused on QS/commercial responsibilities, with the remainder involving project coordination and regular site visits.
You will work closely with the directors, foremen, clients, subcontractors, suppliers and main contractors.
This is not a role where you will be sitting behind a desk all week.
We want someone who is willing to get out to sites, understand what is happening on the ground and work with our foremen to keep projects moving.
Quantity Surveying Responsibilities
You will be involved in the commercial management of both private and commercial projects.
Private Residential
You will assist with:
- Pricing house extensions
- Pricing renovations and refurbishments
- Pricing new-build projects
- Preparing valuations
- Measuring works
- Pricing variations
- Obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations
- Monitoring project costs
- Maintaining project cost reports
- Assisting with procurement
- Monitoring project profitability
You will also have contact with private clients, so good communication skills and a professional approach are important.
Commercial Projects
Arcon Contracting carries out ceilings and partitions fit-out packages on a subcontract basis for Tier 1 and Tier 2 main contractors.
You will assist with:
- Preparing and submitting valuations
- Measuring completed works
- Pricing variations
- Reviewing drawings and specifications
- Monitoring contract progress
- Managing subcontractor and supplier costs
- Preparing applications for payment
- Tracking project costs
- Maintaining commercial records
- Working with main contractors' commercial teams
Previous experience with ceilings and partitions is an advantage, but not essential.
A good understanding of construction and a willingness to learn is more important.
Project & Site Coordination
As part of the role, you will regularly visit our sites and work closely with the foreman.
Responsibilities will include:
- Regular site visits
- Checking progress
- Making sure materials are available
- Identifying issues and helping resolve them
- Working with the foreman to keep projects moving
- Coordinating with subcontractors and suppliers
- Checking works are progressing as planned
- Monitoring quality and workmanship
- Assisting with project programmes
- Keeping the directors updated on progress
- Assisting with snagging and project completion
You will gradually take on more responsibility for project management as your experience develops.
Who We're Looking For
We are looking for someone with approximately 2–4 years' experience in Quantity Surveying who wants to progress their career.
You should have:
- 2–4 years' construction/QS experience
- A relevant QS, Construction Management or related qualification
- Experience with valuations and measuring works
- Good understanding of construction costs
- Ability to read drawings
- Good Excel and computer skills
- Strong organisational skills
- Good communication skills
- A practical approach to problem solving
- Full driving licence
- Willingness to work both from home and on site
Experience in any of the following would be an advantage:
- Commercial fit-out
- Ceilings and partitions
- Drylining
- Subcontracting
- Residential construction
- Extensions and renovations
- Main contractor projects
- Variations and applications for payment
The Opportunity
This role is designed for someone who wants to grow with the company.
You will initially work closely with the directors and gain experience across the commercial and operational sides of the business.
As your experience and knowledge develop, there will be an opportunity to take on increasing responsibility for:
QS → Commercial Management → Project Management → Senior QS / Project Manager
You will have the opportunity to work across both private and commercial construction rather than being restricted to one type of project.
Because Arcon Contracting is a growing company, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to become an important part of the business as it continues to expand.
What We Offer
- €45,000–€55,000 salary depending on experience
- 40-hour working week
- Hybrid working between home and site
- Company vehicle / vehicle allowance, depending on experience
- Company phone and laptop
- Variety of private and commercial projects
- Direct access to company directors
- Increasing responsibility as your experience develops
- Long-term career opportunity
- Opportunity to progress into Project Management
The Person We're Looking For
We're not necessarily looking for someone who knows everything.
We're looking for someone who is ambitious, organised, commercially minded and willing to learn.
Someone who wants more responsibility.
Someone who can sit down and work through the numbers but is equally comfortable putting on a pair of boots and going to site.
If you are looking for an opportunity to develop your career with a growing construction company, we'd like to hear from you.
Apply now with your CV and a brief overview of your experience.
Arcon Contracting is an equal opportunities employer.
