What they need

Bookkeeper / Junior Accountant

Location: Newton, Surrey, BC
Job Type: Full-Time
Industry: Distribution & Warehouse Operations

Looking for More Than “Just Bookkeeping”?

We’re looking for a Bookkeeper / Junior Accountant who wants to be involved in more than entering transactions and reconciling accounts.

In this role, you’ll work closely with accounting, operations, logistics, and management. You’ll help solve real business problems, investigate discrepancies, manage receivables, support payroll, review import duties and tariffs, and contribute ideas that improve the way we operate.

If you’re someone who takes ownership, asks questions, spots problems, and enjoys finding better ways to do things, this could be a great opportunity for you.

What You’ll DoAccounting & Finance

  • Handle full-cycle bookkeeping and general accounting duties
  • Maintain accurate Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
  • Complete monthly government remittances
  • Perform account reconciliations and maintain accurate financial records
  • Manage bi-weekly payroll and ROE administration
  • Assist with financial and administrative reporting as required

Accounts Receivable & Customer Accounts

  • Monitor outstanding receivables and proactively follow up on past-due accounts
  • Review customer accounts and apply credit holds when necessary
  • Investigate and dispute incorrect AR deductions
  • Identify recurring issues and help prevent future deductions and customer policy violations

Operations & Logistics

  • Investigate inbound and outbound shipment discrepancies
  • Audit shipment and inventory-related documentation
  • Ensure outbound shipments are properly documented
  • Review import documentation and verify applicable duty and tariff rates
  • Work with operations to identify errors, resolve issues, and improve processes

Business Support

  • Assist management with accounting, administrative, and operational projects
  • Analyze information and help identify opportunities for cost savings and process improvements
  • Take part in business discussions and contribute practical solutions
  • Be willing to step outside traditional accounting responsibilities when needed

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of Canadian full-cycle accounting experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Advanced QuickBooks knowledge
  • Strong understanding of Canadian accounting practices, AP/AR, payroll, and government remittances
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills
  • Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • 45+ WPM typing speed
  • Strong computer and technology skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Experience with distribution, warehousing, imports, customs, duties, or tariffs is an asset.

The Person We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Takes ownership rather than waiting to be told what to do
  • Notices problems and looks for solutions
  • Is comfortable working with numbers, systems, and details
  • Can switch between accounting and operational priorities
  • Enjoys learning new skills and taking on new challenges
  • Has a positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Wants to understand how the business works, not just complete accounting tasks

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to grow beyond a traditional bookkeeping role.

You’ll gain exposure to accounting, logistics, inventory, customer accounts, imports, payroll, and business operations while working directly with management.

Your ideas and attention to detail can have a real impact on how efficiently the business operates.

If you’re an experienced accounting professional who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and being part of the bigger picture, we’d like to meet you.

Apply today and tell us why you’d be a great fit for the team.
