R & D FORMULATOR

About the role

Dermesse Inc. is seeking a talented and innovative R & D Formulator to join our dynamic team. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in driving our product development initiatives within the food technology and safety sector. As an R & D Formulator, you will be at the forefront of creating cutting-edge formulations that meet the highest standards of quality, safety, and consumer appeal. You will work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to translate scientific concepts into market-ready products whilst maintaining strict compliance with safety regulations and quality standards.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and optimize food formulations using advanced techniques and the latest scientific knowledge to meet product specifications and consumer requirements
• Conduct comprehensive testing and analysis of raw materials and finished products to ensure compliance with food safety standards and regulatory requirements
• Design and execute stability and shelf-life studies to guarantee product integrity and longevity
• Collaborate with quality assurance and production teams to scale laboratory formulations to commercial production levels
• Document all formulation processes, results and modifications in detailed technical reports and maintain accurate records for regulatory purposes
• Investigate and troubleshoot product defects or inconsistencies, implementing corrective actions as needed
• Stay current with industry trends, emerging ingredients and food technology innovations to continuously improve product offerings
• Support regulatory submissions by preparing technical documentation and dossiers for new product approvals
• Participate in sensory evaluation panels and gather feedback to refine formulations for optimal taste, texture and appearance

What we're looking for:

• A degree in Food Technology, Food Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline
• Proven experience as an R & D Formulator or in a similar formulation development role within the food and beverage industry
• Strong knowledge of food chemistry, ingredient functionality and formulation principles
• Comprehensive understanding of food safety regulations, standards and labelling requirements applicable in your region
• Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and analytical instruments commonly used in food testing
• Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to identify and resolve formulation challenges
• Strong attention to detail with meticulous documentation practices
• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey technical information clearly
• Experience with quality management systems and food safety protocols is highly desirable
• Knowledge of sensory evaluation methodologies and consumer preference testing is preferred
