R & D MANAGER (COSMETICS)

About the role

Dermesse Inc. is seeking an experienced R & D Manager (Cosmetics) to lead our research and development initiatives in the cosmetics sector. This is a strategic full-time position based in Pasay City, Metro Manila, where you will oversee the development of innovative cosmetic products and formulations that meet market demands and regulatory standards. As R & D Manager, you will be instrumental in driving product innovation, ensuring quality excellence, and positioning Dermesse Inc. as a leader in the cosmetics industry.

Key responsibilities

Lead the research and development team in designing, formulating and testing new cosmetic products from concept through commercialization

• Conduct feasibility studies and market research to identify opportunities for new product development and improvement of existing formulations
• Oversee compliance with cosmetic safety regulations, food and drug standards, and international quality requirements
• Manage the product development lifecycle, including ingredient sourcing, stability testing, and shelf-life analysis
• Collaborate with marketing, production and quality assurance teams to ensure smooth transition of products from development to commercial manufacturing
• Establish and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for R & D laboratory operations and documentation
• Conduct technical training and provide mentorship to junior research scientists and laboratory technicians
• Monitor industry trends, competitor products and emerging technologies relevant to cosmetics innovation
• Prepare technical reports, regulatory submissions and product documentation as required
• Budget management and resource allocation for R & D projects and initiatives

What we're looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Science or a related field; Master's degree preferred
• Minimum 7-10 years of experience in cosmetics research and development, with at least 5 years in a management capacity
• Proven expertise in cosmetic formulation, including skincare, haircare, or personal care products
• In-depth knowledge of cosmetic ingredient chemistry, stability studies and preservation systems
• Strong understanding of cosmetic regulations and compliance requirements in the Philippines
• Experience with product stability testing, accelerated shelf-life testing and regulatory submissions
• Proficiency in laboratory techniques and analytical methods (HPLC, GC, pH measurement, viscosity analysis)
• Project management skills and experience leading cross-functional teams
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; proficiency in Filipino is advantageous
• Knowledge of food technology and safety standards as they relate to cosmetics would be valuable
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously
• Strong in formulation development
• Computer literate and effective presenter
• With strong leadership and analytical thinking skills
• Creative and innovative
