What they need
MAIN FUNCTIONS
- Perform industrial radiographic testing (RT) of welds, castings, forgings, piping, pressure vessels, structural components, and other equipment to detect internal defects.
- Operate X-ray and gamma-ray radiography equipment in accordance with approved procedures and applicable safety requirements.
- Review radiographic testing procedures, drawings, inspection requirements, and acceptance criteria before commencing examinations.
- Select appropriate radiographic techniques, exposure parameters, source types, films, digital detectors, and image quality indicators (IQIs) for the examination.
- Set up and position radiographic equipment, source, film, detectors, and accessories accurately to obtain quality radiographs.
- Establish and control restricted areas, warning signs, barriers, and radiation safety measures during radiographic operations.
- Conduct radiographic examinations and ensure exposures are performed safely and in accordance with approved techniques.
- Process, develop, or digitally acquire radiographic images and evaluate image quality for acceptability.
- Interpret radiographs to identify discontinuities such as cracks, porosity, inclusions, lack of fusion, lack of penetration, and other weld or material defects.
- Compare radiographic indications against applicable codes, standards, specifications, and acceptance criteria.
- Maintain accurate records of radiographic examinations, exposure details, source identification, locations, results, and equipment used.
- Prepare radiographic reports and communicate examination results to QA/QC inspectors, engineers, clients, and relevant project personnel.
- Ensure radiation sources, exposure devices, X-ray equipment, survey meters, dosimeters, and associated accessories are properly inspected and maintained.
- Perform radiation surveys before, during, and after exposures as required to confirm safe working conditions.
- Monitor personal radiation exposure and ensure dosimetry requirements are followed.
- Report equipment defects, abnormal radiation readings, safety incidents, and non-conformances immediately.
- Maintain traceability of radiographs, test locations, weld numbers, components, and inspection records.
- Support other NDT activities and coordinate with welding, fabrication, inspection, and QA/QC teams as required.
- Ensure all radiographic activities comply with applicable NDT standards, radiation protection regulations, client requirements, and HSE procedures.
REQUIREMENTS
- Technical Diploma, HND, Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Physical Sciences, or a related technical discipline.
- Valid ASNT, PCN, ISO 9712, or equivalent Radiographic Testing (RT) certification appropriate to the role.
- Relevant Level II/II-C radiography qualification or authorization, as required by the applicable certification scheme and regulatory authority.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant industrial radiography experience, preferably within oil & gas, petrochemical, fabrication, construction, or maintenance environments.
- Demonstrated experience in weld and material radiography using X-ray and/or gamma-ray sources.
- Strong knowledge of radiographic techniques, image quality requirements, exposure calculations, and film/digital image interpretation.
- Good understanding of applicable codes and standards such as ASME, API, AWS, ASTM, ISO, and client-specific specifications.
- Knowledge of radiation protection principles, safe source handling, controlled-area requirements, and emergency procedures.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld maps, inspection plans, and radiographic procedures.
- Strong documentation, reporting, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to work effectively in fabrication yards, workshops, construction sites, offshore facilities, and other industrial environments.
- Must be medically fit for industrial radiography duties and able to comply with applicable radiation safety and regulatory requirements.
