What they need

Job Summary

Fabric8Labs, headquartered in sunny San Diego, CA, is revolutionizing advanced manufacturing with next-generation 3D printing technology. We're looking for an R&D Engineer to support the Printhead Department as we scale our patented Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) process for global production.

ECAM uses precise, room-temperature metal deposition to unlock geometries and applications that conventional metal AM can't reach. Since announcing our agreement to be acquired by TDK Corporation, we're rapidly expanding our team to advance this disruptive technology across a wide range of electronics components—including data center infrastructure, wireless communications, and power electronics.

As an R&D Engineer, you'll be a crucial part of the team, responsible for developing, debugging, and integrating new printhead architectures..

If you're excited to help shape the future of manufacturing alongside a growing team, come join us. We thrive on collaborative problem-solving and are eager to bring in diverse minds and perspectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Own printhead new product integration (NPI). Interface with engineering groups to identify technical deficits and integration issues. Develop improvements to the process and technology.
  • Research printhead performance through printing and benchtop testing. Collect and analyze test data, present findings, and provide recommendations and inform key design decisions for the next generation technology.
  • Develop and validate characterization methods, automated test procedures, and measurement setups to improve test repeatability, measurement accuracy, and testing throughput.
  • Support failure analysis and root cause investigation. Diagnose electrical, functional, and reliability failures using systematic troubleshooting, data analysis, and appropriate electrical and physical characterization techniques.
  • Understand the life cycle of the printhead from nanofabrication, bonding, assembly, and printing.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics,Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering; or a related field
  • Strong science background, proven in either independent experience with custom hardware and/or research, working across disciplines.
  • Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced research and development environment.
  • Experience with: prototyping and assembling, troubleshooting, modification; and/or with reiterative design based on test results.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • Masters or PhD degree in Physics, Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering; or a related field.
  • 2+ years of proven related industry experience, with non-academic research experience a plus
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge of semiconductor and MEMS devices, nanofabrication process flows, and root cause analysis (RCA) and failure analysis.
  • Experience with data analysis and hardware integration using Python.
  • Deep practical understanding of transistor physics and electrodeposition.

Why Work at Fabric8Labs?

  • We offer a comprehensive benefits package, health, dental, and vision plans; 401(k) with employer match; and an unmetered vacation policy.
  • We have a collaborative work environment where we work in tight knit teams focused on transforming manufacturing technology.
  • Regular catered company events and celebrations, and a fully stocked breakroom!
