R&D Engineer- Lithium Battery

Role Overview

We're looking for a Lithium Battery R&D Engineer to join our R&D team in Sansarpur Terrace, Himachal Pradesh. You'll be responsible for the end-to-end design, development, testing, and validation of our Li-Ion battery packs - primarily for the Three-Wheeler EV segment and Energy Storage Systems. This is a hands-on technical role with a strong focus on performance, safety, reliability, and cost optimization to take products from concept through to mass production.

Key Responsibilities

• Battery Pack Design & Development
• Design and develop Lithium-Ion battery packs for 3W EV and Energy Storage System applications.
• Lead cell selection, electrical configuration (series/parallel), pack sizing, and thermal considerations.
• Develop mechanical design concepts including module structures, busbars, terminals, and cooling plates.
• Own BOM preparation and cost optimisation through the design phase.

BMS & Electronics Integration

• Partner with the BMS team on hardware and firmware integration.
• Define protection parameters — OVP, UVP, OCP, OTP, short-circuit limits — and SOC/SOH algorithms.
• Support CAN communication development for 3W vehicles and ESS inverters.

Testing & Validation

• Build the Design Validation Plan & Report (DVP&R) for each pack.
• Run electrical, thermal, mechanical, vibration, and environmental tests.
• Analyse test data, generate clear technical reports, and feed learnings back into the design.
• Lead failure analysis at cell, module, and pack levels.

Prototype to Production

• Oversee prototype pack assembly and testing.
• Work closely with manufacturing to ensure a smooth handover from design to mass production.
• Validate fixtures, jigs, and assembly processes.

Standards, Compliance & Certification

• Apply working knowledge of AIS-156, AIS-038, AIS-048, UL 1973, IEC 62133, and relevant BIS standards.
• Prepare documentation for ICAT, ARAI, and BIS certification submissions.
• Ensure safety compliance across EV and ESS applications.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work with Purchase, Quality, Production, and Service teams through the product lifecycle.
• Support customer technical discussions with 3W OEMs and ESS integrators.

R&D Innovation & Benchmarking

• Benchmark competitor battery packs and technologies.
• Explore new chemistries (LFP / NMC), cell formats (prismatic, cylindrical, pouch), and cooling methods.
• Drive ongoing improvements in cycle life, thermal performance, and reliability.

What We're Looking For

Experience. 3 – 8 years in Lithium-Ion battery R&D, with hands-on exposure to pack assembly, testing, and validation.

Design experience. Practical experience designing Li-Ion packs - electrical configuration, mechanical layout, thermal management - for either EV or ESS applications.

BMS understanding. Working knowledge of BMS and troubleshooting heating issues, cell balancing problems, and BMS faults

Education. B.Tech or M.Tech in Electrical, Mechanical, or related engineering disciplines.

Pay: ₹700,000.00 - ₹1,200,000.00 per year
